Couldn't the main character pause time in the early seasons or something? --Havermayer 03:33, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Yes, Zack frequently broke the fourth wall (though, strangely, he only froze whatever room he was in? Anyone notice how he could still make phone calls and such (as seen in seasons 3/4 where he orders flowers for Mr. Belding's wife in a particular episode that escapes me at the moment)). It wasn't necessarilly a pivotal plot point in the later seasons and became phased out as the show progressed. Shinku Hisaki 07:53, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

I edited out some of the "trivia", as they were too... trivial. this talk page isn't precisely jumping, but i wouldn't mind a revert if anyone can cite a reason TastemyHouse 04:32, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

Max!

What about Max (from the Max), and how his character magically vanished.

Screech and Violet

I thought that their breakup *did* have an explanation. There was an episode where Screech met Violet's rich, upper-class parents. But because he kept making mistakes and didn't know how to behave at a formal dinner, Violet's parents made her break up with him. Does anyone else remember this?

That was the Glee Club episode in which Violet was the only one who could actually sing. However, after "breaking up" with Screech, she became too nervous to perform at the glee club competition. This is, until Screech showed up to "rescue" her performance. Because of that, Violet's parents changed their mind about her not being allowed to see Screech anymore.

Also, a later episode of SBTB, "Check Your Mate", in which Screech faces the Russian foreign exchange from Valley in the all-city championship, featured Violet as Screech's girlfriend. So who knows what ever happened to her?

Character Bio's

I stumbled upon this page on WP:CU, at first glance it appears the the main character bio's a just a tad too long. Each of them are practicly 3-4 paragraphs, and aren't just the core of who the character is. Would anyone that activly edits this article object to me trimming them down? --lightdarkness (talk) 15:50, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Articles?

Why should it matter if the character bios are "just a tad too long"? This was arguably the most extensive Saved by the Bell resource on the net, save a full list of episodes (which can be found other places). It was more extensive than the websites which were exclusively devoted to the subject. Why trim down this great source of information? Isn't that what an encyclopedia is for? It looks as if my massively researched and painstakingly accurate articles on Saved by the Bell have been removed from this site (the Max, the Nerds, and the Extra Characters). Why was this done? Did I offend somebody? Was it really necessary to delete these articles, or is it just an arbitrary quota that drove the editors to do so? I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't mad, but I'm hoping there's a reasonable explanation for all of this. 2/21/06

This article blurs the timespan between the end of the original SBTB and beginning of SBTB: TCY. It would be helpful if someone highlighted the dates of the actual college years run and subsequent movies with a brief summary.

That seems pretty pointless, because if you post anything remotely in-depth, no matter how accurate, it is immediately edited down. Fah!

Justifying edits

Anon user, I appreciate the work and research you put into this article, but yes, that is the nature of Wikipedia, and should be accepted knowledge by anyone who writes for it. The article was deemed too long, given it's nature and subject matter so I edited parts of it out, doing my best to leave the most useful parts intact. You are welcome to make adjustments as you see fit, but the article still needs to adhere to certain guidelines. Ckessler

Other TV Shows?

Unless I'm mistaken, many other Wikipedia entries on television shows are far more in-depth than SBTB is allowed. I cite The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Dawson's Creek as very detailed and interesting entires, while SBTB is cut down for no discernible reason other than perhaps a lack in popularity in comparison to these other shows. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.125.35.131 (talk • contribs) 14:56, 10 March 2006.

Dawson's Creek is a well written and edited feature article that is filled with potentially useful information. It stays away from biased, fannish writing. Rewrite this article to be like that, and length won't be an issue. Ckessler

Don't try and tell me that Saved by the Bell can be written about in any way other than a tongue-in-cheek, point-out-the-obvious manor. The show was an unitentionally ridiculous, parodiacal mockery of real teenage life. Are you judging my articles based on these shortcomings? That is to say, are you saying that that Saved by the Bell doesn't deserve as long a listing as Dawson's Creek because of its own self-evident misconceptions about high school? Not fair. raptor165

AC Slater

Assistant camera does the slate for takes so does anyone else think that his name may have originated from that?

SBTB back in production

http://www.adultswim.com/williams/news/index.html?http%3A//www.adultswim.com/williams/news/articles/default.html I don't know if this is final or what.

It's a trap. That network is known for pulling outlandish stunts. Please to be thinking about it from logical standpoint.
It would seem that they merely laid out the plot summary of SBTB: new class and claimed that they were making new episodes. I would agree that it is probably a stunt.
It was just a joke: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1529564/20060426/index.jhtml joeynelson 13:57, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Ratings on adultswim

Apperently it was getting over 600,000 a night, outdrawing most of the normal programing during the program block. Is this noteworthy?

I relize showing it was a joke, but surely they never expected it to do well.

Error

It says that both Dennis Haskins and Dustin Diamond are the only character to appear in all incarnations of the show.

This isn't an error. Dustin Diamond was in Good Morning Miss Bliss and all four seasons of the high school years, as well as the one season of the college years and the remaining seasons of The New Class. Dennis Haskins made a guest appearence on The College Years

Didn't Lark Voorhies appear in all of them? If I recall correctly, she was in Good Morning Miss Bliss, and had cameos in both The College Years (visiting during Zack's and Kelly's engagement) and The New Class (when the Max burned down). Or is my memory deceiving me? Steffan Alun 16:41, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Saved by the bell

I believe the origin of this dates back to Victorian England, a guard on duty at Horseguards was accused of being asleep on the job, he protested saying he had been awake, hearing the bells of Westminster (big ben) strike thirteen.

So serious was the charge and so odd the aliaby an investigation was launched and it was found a loose cog would cause an extra chime at midnight.

The guard was absolved of blame and was "saved by the bells"

Tori

I remember Tori's inclusion differently. The way she's mentioned in several spots, it makes it sound like there was a batch of Kelly/Jessie episodes, a batch of Tori episodes and then the graduation one. Weren't the Tori episodes intermixed with the Kelly/Jessie ones in order to make it seem like they were still around?

Screech and Mikey

To put to rest once and for all the "Screech is Mikey's brother" note that people keep putting in the About The Show section: Screech is NOT Mikey's brother. The episode "Parents and Teachers" proves this because Miss Bliss sees Screech and Mikey's parents on separate nights. In the same episode, Zack makes a comment to Mikey about how he (Mikey) has known Screech for eight years. To confuse things more, Zack does ask Screech in the episode "The Showdown" about how his (Screech's) brother always wanted his own room. In the SbtB episodes, Screech is portrayed as an only child. Different shows?

I submit that this article erroneously treats the various DIFFERENT series of the show as one show, and that 'saved by the bell' should be descibed as a series of shows or a franchise of shows (as star trek or James bond are described as franchises).

The new class is without question a separate series from the original SBTB. New title, new cast - a spinoff. It may be covered in the same article as SBTB, but it shouldn't be implied as the same series with just a change of cast. If anything, College Years could be seen as a continuation of the original show, but it too is really a spinoff show. Accurately, Good Morning Miss Bliss was a completely separate show on (I think it was) the Disney channel as a vehicle for Haley Mills. It was abandonned after a season, but it was adapted for NBC into SBTB. The show doesn't follow the same canon as Miss Bliss (the schools are different schools, in different states; characters have different histories, friends and families.) It wouldn't even be an issue except that the miss bliss episodes were later repackaged with the SBTB theme song, and an intro by Zach as (basically) 'this is what happened in junior high'. I'm not sure if this was ever first-run this way, or if it was only for syndication, but this makes it a bit harder to claim that the miss bliss episodes aren't canon. Either way, I'm going to reorganize the article a bit, but I think it deserves to be rewritten even more to reflect that the series are separate.

I'm editing my comment to reflect that I see now that it's mainly the first half of the article that seems to be misleading. TheHYPO 12:38, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Saved by the bell? Dustin

Is there any legitimate reference to the trivia of where 'saved by the bell' comes from? (and do we really care? is that really trivia about the show?).

Right now it says that it comes from boxing, but the reference link is to the bells on coffins for people burried alive. That needs to be fixed, or otherwise trashed. It's not really relevant to this program.

Also, Dustin's only friend being Haskins? Is this accurate or factual? I know he was younger than the other cast, so he didn't fit in, but I don't think that I've ever heard it described as actually 'not getting along' with them. He just didn't hang out with them... any insight? TheHYPO 15:49, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Dennis Haskins stopped by a college in my city a few weeks ago. I attended and he held a question-and-answer session, with most of the Q's obviously being about SBTB. I inquired as to whether or not it was true about Dustin's lack of friendship on the set, and he confirmed, sadly, that there was some truth to that; mainly the fact that there was a large age gap between the other cast members and Dustin. He also said that he and Dustin were a fairly good acting team on the set, having good chemistry on-screen and good coordination off-screen.

Episode Guide

Is there no episode guide for SBTB? It might be an idea to start putting together one...

There are several episode guides for SBTB. Just not one on wikipedia. tv.com is one, there are a number of others. TheHYPO 20:31, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Hehe, yes.. I'm aware that there are episode guides out there. :P But to make Wikipedia an ultimate resource, it might be nice to have a fully updated version of it here too! Mikay 22:43, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Mumbling Dutch? untrue statement on article

in the trivia section, it states Mark Paul Gosselar played a foregin chess opponant in "Check Your Mate" as well as mubled Dutch while doing so. I dont know where this came from, but it's total BS. the only foreign opponant in the episode was Peter Breshnev, played by Matthew Kaminsky. look. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0695182/ he also doesnt mutter anything. whether Gosselar speaks Dutch i dont know, but this part of the article is wrong and i'm taking it out. JamieDangerously 06:49, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Actually, that bit of trivia is likely correct. In the episode, Screech is in a chess championship against a foreign opponent from Valley. Zack and Slater entered a bet with some Valley students for some large sum of money (I believe $200). In order to ensure that Screech would win the tournament, Zack and Slater kidnap the foreign student and Zack then impersonates him at the chess tournament. During his impersonation, he mumbles something that sounds like it could be Dutch to me, though I am not certain of it. Walkerb4 17:17, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Even if what you say is true, the trivia is thus false, because I believe the trivia was that that Gosselar was the only cast member to play another character besides his own, when really, according to you, he's simply playing Zack pretending to be the opponent. TheHYPO 17:31, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
That is true, but the contention of argument that I was addressing was whether he was or was not mumbling Dutch. Walkerb4
I'll be honest, I remembered the trivia wrong. I thought the main point of the trivia was that MPG was the only cast member to play someone other than himself, but apparently that was only the subpoint of the trivia:
In an episode where Screech participates in a chess championship ("Check Your Mate"), he plays a foreign opponent portrayed by Mark-Paul Gosselaar (the only actor to have another role). While playing the opponent, Gosselaar's character mumbles in Dutch. Gosselaar speaks fluent Dutch.
If someone wants to put it back in (I suggest you remove the "only actor to have another role" line since it's not accurate according to the previous commentors, go ahead - assuming someone actually knows that he speaks Dutch and that it was Dutch he is mumbling in the episode. TheHYPO 07:41, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Look, i watched the episode before i changed this. I invite you to do the same. he doesnt mumble anything. it's just an untrue statement. theres no mumbling. MPG may speak Dutch, i dont know, but he doesnt in this episode. also, the bet was originally $100, but tripled by Spreech to $300, Walkerb4 JamieDangerously 05:07, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Syndication data

As of July 2006, Saved by the Bell has been rerun more than 2 million times.[citation needed] According to TBS, it has been rerun on that station 1068 times.

These numbers are insane. "Good Morning, Miss Bliss" first aired in 1987. To reach 2 million broadcasts 20 years later, it would have needed to play constantly on 6 different channels every minute of every day.

On the other end of the scale, TBS has been running at least two episodes of the show 5 days a week for 10 years or more, making the quoted figure of 1068 way too low. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Joe Malik (talkcontribs) 13:20, 15 January 2007 (UTC).

Saved by the Bell may very well have been aired for than 2 million times if consider not only airings within the US, but foreign showings as well. Saved by the Bell has been aired in countries around the world.

Nobody knew of her? She had done Punky Brewster, one of the anchors of NBC's Saturday Morning lineup, for several years beforehand. --Zpb52 17:54, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
Still means nothing to me. But we'll go with it. - Dudesleeper · Talk 17:59, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
Punky Brewster was both a live-action (and a separate cartoon) series that aired on NBC in the late 1980s, just prior to the debut of Saved by the Bell. It was about an optimistic, orphaned young girl who took up residence with a cranky old man. The show lived on in syndication for a few more years, but it is no longer on the air (that I'm aware of). --Zpb52 19:58, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Observation

I was rewatching the SBtB episodes lately and came across the one with the Glee club where Violet freezes up and everyone speculates about screech moving during the 'time out'. If you watch the left of the screen when Zack goes into the back, Screech appears to be frozen by the time out, but snaps out of it once Zack talks to him. It's a very brief second, but Screech is standing with his arms held out at waist level without moving, leading me to speculate that he only was able to move because Zack spoke to him, and that the time out freezes everything everywhere. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TwistedArachnid (talkcontribs) 03:06, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
