"Most Japanese Believe"[edit]

Is it apprpriate to say that most Japanese people believe this? That is, to say, I did not realize that this was still widely considered a fact, even in modern society.--Sotaru 23:59, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Popular culture reference[edit]

I removed a reference to an anime series episode which had a reference to the river as I don't think it adds to the article in any way.--Swift 21:11, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eurocentrism[edit]

It is inappropriately Eurocentric to refer to this as a "version of the River Styx". That wording implies that the River Styx myth is a "default belief" of sorts, which it isn't--this is a separate tradition with a separate history. --Grenadier (talk) 02:18, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Keneo weighs their offences...and then what?[edit]

This article goes up to the point where Datsue-ba strips the deceased of their clothes, and Keneo hangs them on a branch to determine the weight of that person's offences. But what happens next? Also, in the article about Japanese funerals it says that six coins are usually thrown into the deceased's casket, to assist them in crossing the Sanzu River, but this article doesn't explain why doing that would help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.141.138.150 (talk) 02:30, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to Soka Gakkai...[edit]

I removed a section that detailed an interpretation of the River Sanzu as interpreted by Sokka Gakkai. As Sokka Gakkai is a fringe sect which has only started recently, and largely considered to be a cult, it seems that their interpretation should not be placed to the sole exclusion to the interpretation by more traditional sects, such as Nichiren or Zen Buddhists, and also to the exclusion of traditional Shinto interpretations.
