WP:LEAD
  • If I am reading this correctly, the LEAD says she is the daughter of John Wayles and his slave Betty Hemings, but the main body says she was the born to Elizabeth Hemings and John Hemings.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 15:10, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

THE LEAD the lead says it because it addressed in the biography section, Sally Hemings was born to Elizabeth Hemings (1735–1807), the daughter of Susanna, an enslaved African, and John Hemings, an English sea captain.[8] Susanna and Elizabeth Hemings (also known as Betty Hemings) were first held by Francis Eppes IV, where Susanna was referred to as Susanna Epps.[9] John Hemings tried to buy them from Eppes, but the planter refused to give them up.[8] The mother and daughter were inherited by Francis' daughter, Martha Eppes, who took them with her as personal servants upon her marriage to the planter John Wayles.

sally was born to her mother who was named Elizabeth Hemings, but was called betty by all, that is addressed in the second sentence (also know as Betty Hemings) Betty was born to Susanna, slave woman, and a captain John Hemings, it later explains that John Wayles became Betty and Susanna's master, and took Betty as his concubine after becoming a widower.... hope this is addressed, however I rewrote it to make much less confusing. Added a photo of Sally's grandson John Wayles Jefferson, who was said to look like Jefferson, including having red hair and grey eyes. He served as a colonel in the Union Army. (From the JW Jefferson article.) Have never made a family tree so am not sure if I can do that.Parkwells (talk) 20:27, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
