Finding "exactly 102 years after the Georgiana's loss appears to be unsubstantiated vandalism[edit]

Although Mr. Spence created the original article, he never made the claim that he discovered the wreck of SS Georgiana was discovered on the anniversary of its sinking, nor can I find any sources for this information prior to 2010. The source apparently was a URL identified only as "200.88.35.9" who dropped this factoid into the article, without attribution [1]. It is true that the Georgiana sank on March 19, 1863, and it is true that Spence first spotted it in 1965. This believe-it-or-not detail was picked up by the syndicated "Today in History" newspaper column starting on March 19, 2010, with the "exactly 102 years after" phrase apparently borrowed verbatim from the Wikipedia article, but unless there's actually some evidence to the contrary, I think it's nonsense from the days when additions by unidentified editors were accepted without question. Contradictions[edit]

Who discovered the wreck? One sections states that a commerical fisherman initially discovered the wreck. The following section states that Dr. Spence discovered the wreck. Also, there may be a mistake in one of the dates in the Confederate ship section. The date given is 1963 when it may be 1863.Shinerunner (talk) 06:43, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article written like self-serving advertisement[edit]

Added ‘fact’ tag in opening lead. There are no reliable references given showing that George Trenholm owned the SS Georgiana. I have also removed several non-related “plugs” for Lee Spence’s controversial theories. Ironically, Spence started this article…and he included his claims. References should be held to Wikipedia standards. Google blogs do not count as reliable references. The article should be centered around the SS Georgiana, and not spin-off fringe theories Jim (talk) 23:24, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
