Stub?[edit]

I agree with Cimon Avaro (23rd Sept) that this article is a bit long for a 'stub'. - Ballista 06:04, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rv deletion[edit]

I've reverted a deletion with the edit summary

removing two short paragraphs copied straight from http://www.rundetaarn.dk/engelsk/frames.htm (copyright violation).

I mailed the webmaster of the homepage where the material comes from; here's my mail and the reply, in Danish, and my English translation of the reply.

My mail:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rundet%C3%A5rn&diff=226783592&oldid=226782956
Den slettede tekst er følgende:
The spiral walk is unique in European architecture. The 209m long spiral ramp winds 7.5 turns around the hollow core of the tower forming the only connection between the individual parts of the building complex.
The tower is the oldest functioning observatory in Europe

My translation of reply:

I can understand why you wonder; the text is not copyrighted and what we have on our homepage is for common use, if only we are mentioned, as we are here.

So, while the text perhaps could be better integrated into the article instead of being in a trivia section, there's no need to remove it.--Noe (talk) 22:09, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's good news. Thank you for taking the time to deal with this in a more optimal way. Hemmingsen 15:00, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Questionable Phrase[edit]

"In Denmark, heights of buildings are often compared to the height of the Rundetårn."

Are they? I can't say I've noticed. Can we get some inputs on this? --85.81.86.44 (talk) 11:50, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm Danish, and indeed I've heard heights of buildings, lengts of aeroplanes, and other things compared to Rundetårn - years ago. I don't think it's notable.--Noe (talk) 08:11, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It used to be a commonly used expression, stemming back from the days when Rundetårn was one of the tallest buildings of Copenhagen. It is notably used in Hans Christian Andersens fairytale The Tinderbox, where the largest dog have "eyes the size of Rundetårn". However I do not think it is commonly used in modern Danish anymore. --Saddhiyama (talk) 09:56, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Observatory[edit]

The article reads "The University of Copenhagen discontinued operations of the observatory in 1860 but in 1828 it was reconstructed as an observatory with access for amateur astronomers and the general public from mid-October to mid-March." There seems to me to be something wrong with the logic here. Are the dates correct? Ipigott (talk) 13:20, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling "Rundetaarn" or "Rundetårn"[edit]

I very much do not believe the aa spelling is the commonname in English, and it certainly is not in Danish. The name of the website is irrelevant as evidence since Danish webpages almost always substitute aa for å - without that having any relevance for the correctness of the spelling.·maunus · snunɐɯ· 20:42, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't talk about the domain name, but the actual content. Also Den Store Danske and Visit Copenhagen back it up. Lensi (talk) 20:54, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

RundetaarnRundetårn – Per WP:COMMONNAME. Yes, Rundetaarn is the official spelling, but not really used in everyday life. The lead should instead note the official spelling in the first paragraph. ― Hebsen (talk) 14:04, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME, but I agree the lead of the article should probably be updated to represent the title of the page.--Ortizesp (talk) 16:28, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
