Cultural references[edit]

When Homer punches Snake repeatedly and then holds him down over the front of the car, is this a reference to a similar scene in Indiana Jones (I don't know which film)? — Paul G 17:08, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think there is a reference to that, I know what you are talking about, I just don't remember which one. When I get the time I will look at the movies to find out. trailblazers100 8:33, 29 December 2007
Once you find a valid source with a reference, then you can read at it. As i said on Lisa's Sax talk page read this about reliable sources. Ctjf83 talk 19:37, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a reason why my cultural reference keeps being deleted? When Homer is driving Snake's car under the bridge he starts singing Luka by Suzanne Vega. You can check for yourselves because he starts singing My name is Luka I live on the second floor. That is the beginning of the song. Trailblazers100 (talk) 19:40, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Trailblazers100 2:39 December 30th, 2007[reply]

That is the main reason I want to put it on because no one else has found this reference. I just want to help people like me who are interested in cultural references that the Simpsons use. If they want to know what the name of that one song was they come here usually. I can not find any source that confirms what I said, but it's true. I know it. Let me converse on this for a bit with some other project members Ctjf83 talk 19:53, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Added a cultural reference to a song homer was singing, he very clearly says the lyrics "my name is luka I live on the second floor" but I found a source as it looks like this may have been a point of controversy on the talk page before.Phineasqphailboat (talk) 05:01, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

GA review[edit]

Hi. Here is my GA review. I'll list things as per the Good Article criteria:

  • 1. It is well written
  • Wiki-link Homer and Marge in the lead.
  • You could easily expand the lead; even though this is a rather short article the lead could be longer.
  • Snake is wiki-linked twice, no need for this. Actually many things are wiki-linked twice. They should be linked on there first mention and not after that (unless in lists or captions).
  • 2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
  • State where and on what network it first aired. Just saying the date isn't enough.
  • Lionel Hutz is a character. Doesn't say this in the lead, if I didn't know I would think he was a person. That whole sentence needs to be rewritten.
  • You might want to be more specific, or find a better description for 'murder house".
  • I'm guessing Homer and Snake are fighting while the car is moving? Should state this.
  • "At the end of the episode Homer introduces her to government welfare." - introduces her? Exactly what did he do?
  • The staff? The writers, producers, who?
  • 3. It is broad in its coverage.
  • Surely there was more of a reception then from just one book? Can't you find more then that?
  • You mention Hutz and Phil Hartman in the lead but not in the main article. You shouldn't do this. It should be mentioned in the article. It would be appropriate to have a few sentences on this because it's significant that it was Hutz's last appearance. They retired the character after this didn't they?
  • 4. It is neutral.
  • No probs
  • 5. It is stable.
  • No probs
  • 6. Images.

Ok. Apart from those things is fine. I've placed the article on hold. I'll keep it on hold for at least a week unless everything is addressed. Following that I make no guarentees I won't fail it. Please contact me on my talk page if you have any problems. - Shudde talk 09:10, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Addressing points from GA Review[edit]

  •  Done -- Reduced image resolution for Image:Realty Bites.jpg. Cirt (talk) 16:52, 13 December 2007 (UTC).[reply]
  •  Done -- Wiki-linked Homer and Marge in the lead. Cirt (talk) 17:13, 13 December 2007 (UTC).[reply]
  •  Done -- Changed "The Staff" to "The writers", sounds more clear this way. Cirt (talk) 17:14, 13 December 2007 (UTC).[reply]
  • I added a bit to the Reception section, working on finding more but it's difficult because lots of things come up in searches for "Realty Bites", believe it or not. Cirt (talk) 20:10, 13 December 2007 (UTC).[reply]
  •  Done added FOX, added Hutz is a character, "moving" car, specified how Homer introduced Marge to unemployment, Linked Kirk, added a bit more about Hutz in the reception section Ctjf83 talk 20:31, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Done -- Expanded the Lead/Intro a little bit. Cirt (talk) 18:26, 15 December 2007 (UTC).[reply]
OK, a couple of things. You still havn't explained "murder house" properly, and the one sentence on Phil Hartman isn't really enough. The lead looks better now though. - Shudde talk 22:51, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for getting back to us about these points, and commenting that the lead looks better. I left a note for Ctjf83 (talk · contribs), so hopefully those last two points will be addressed shortly. Cirt (talk) 00:49, 17 December 2007 (UTC).[reply]
There isn't anymore to say about Hutz being retired. Hartman was murdered, so they retired his characters out of respect. That's all there is t it. Gran2 19:26, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK thanks for that. Looks better now, especially the murder house section. - Shudde talk 19:55, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does Work Out or Doesn't?[edit]

I don't have the DVDs so I can't check the commentary. The top says that the writers wanted to do an episode where the job does not work out, while the production notes says the opposite. Which one is right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.177.48.86 (talk) 22:52, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for point that out. The production section was wrong, they wanted one where her job did not work out. Thanks again! CTJF83Talk 02:11, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Homer's punches[edit]

Why don't you use a picture where Homer punches Snake in nose? It wold be much better than this one. (Take from Ukrainian uk:Кусюче Маклерство)--Anatoliy-024 (talk) 17:02, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Because this episode is focused on Marge, not Homer. CTJF83Talk 17:27, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Is it important on Homer or Marge the episode is focused? It seems to me that insead of Kirk losing his arm it would be better to show Homer punching Snake in his nose.--Anatoliy-024 (talk) 09:18, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you look in the production section it says:
"The piano wire scene was meant to end with Kirk's sandwich being sliced just the way he wanted, until George Meyer suggested that his arm be cut off instead. Mike Scully described the ensuing laughter at his suggestion as the most intense he had ever heard from the staff. He stated: "They were literally choking because the joke was so unexpected. It was a shocked kind of laugh, and it just started rolling, one of those laughs that build the more they reverberate through you."[5]"
So Kirk's arm is more important than Homer being punched. CTJF83Talk 19:44, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Why Homer? Homer has won the fight with Snake, an Homer punched Snake for 14 times as it was shown, and Snake only 5.--Anatoliy-024 (talk) 10:23, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I already explained that Kirk's arm scene is mentioned in the commentary. CTJF83Talk 07:10, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I've seen the DVD comentary twice in English, and I do not however understand, why are the talking at first: 'Homer - '. well I think that laws here are too strict for me. But you can take pictures from ukrainian articles, although we have only 34 articles about Simpsons episodes.--Anatoliy 024 (talk) 10:52, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
