Notablity[edit]

For future reference - Rafael Robb is notable as an academic. He is (was) an Ivy League professor and a fellow of the Econometric Society and as such notable. Novidmarana (talk) 00:17, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Robb may have been notable in a circle of academics, but he is most notable to the general public as an Ivy League professor who pleaded guilty in the very high-profile death of his wife. That's why I changed the the article. He didn't have an article on Wikipedia before that happened. I appreciate his efforts as an academic, but that is not why there is an article on him on Wikipedia. Far more well-known professors in other fields don't have articles--lyonspen | (talk) 03:44, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is not the yellow press. If it would be only for the murder of his wife he would not be notable at all, given that there a thousands of murders every day. What he is notable for are his contributions to evolutionary game theory. The fact that he has been elected as a fellow of the econometric society, that he was a professor at a top ten economics department and all that should give it away that he was not just a random academic. The fact that the press, let alone the yellow press do not report much about academia and economic science should not be a reason for Wikipedia to do the same. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Econmathguy (talkcontribs) 00:32, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Why was there no article on him before his arrest?lyonspen | (talk) 15:05, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not true. The popular press reported about him and his research even before this incident. Econmathguy (talk) 17:14, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And btw where does WP:N says that we should move up a murder conviction? And even if WP:N would say that, wouldnt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(academics) be more appropriate? Econmathguy (talk) 17:30, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think the academics aspect of WP:N would apply if you had sources to back that claim up. The sources I see on the page clearly show that he is notable for the murder of his wife. If you can offer sources that fulfill WP:Weight of his academic notability maybe we could come up with a compromise. I'm not going to edit war with you on this. That said I am steadfast.lyonspen | (talk) 02:30, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I believe Robbs notabilty only comes from the combination of his academic accomplishments and the murder of his wife, either on its own would not gain him any particular notability. Society tends to be hypnotized when the accomplished commit murders, and this was a particularly sensational one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Voeges (talkcontribs) 01:46, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rob or Robb[edit]

The page about him at RePEc: [1] introduces him as Rafael Robb. But, except for TWO, in ALL of his papers listed there (more than 50, I would say, I didn't count them) his family name is Rob. This fact is not mentioned at all in the page (to which I am going to add at least his famous coauthored work, more than 1500 citations according to Google Scholar). --Fioravante Patrone (talk) 07:32, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
