French meaning[edit]

Indeed. The city of Quatre Bornes is built on what was once a large sugar cane plantation marked out by four boundary stones. --Anonymous

"Quatres Bornes" does not seem to mean "four corners" in French but "four boundary stones" according to my dictionary. --Edcolins 20:35, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If I might add my two cents' worth - "bornes" in French means a boundary or marker (such as the "marker stones" above). A more apt translations of "Four Corners" into French would be "carrefour" - ie. intersection

Candos or Sodnac?[edit]

On Google Maps, a region of the town is rather called Candos, however, I see several streets and places called Sodnac. (These are the same word read forwards and backwards. Looks like the town's inhabitants are funny people?) Joe Forster/STA (talk) 16:30, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
