Categorization[edit]

I'm aware that someone has removed three categories in this article, those being related to democratic backsliding in the United States, political extremism in the United States, and far-right politics in the United States. The reason why I am starting this discussion is to alleviate the chances of an edit war or a dispute.

Let me start off with the category relating to democratic backsliding in the United States: where does the article mention democratic backsliding? Which sources mention democratic backsliding? When I looked through the article, I didn't see anything about democratic backsliding in there. If it's implied in the article or if it's mentioned in any of the sources, please let me know.

I think the categories relating to political extremism in the United States and far-right politics in the United States can be talked about in the same sentence. I think the Republicans who do want to expunge the Trump impeachments saw them as political witch hunts because Dems (specifically Maxine Waters among others) have called for him to be impeached since Trump took office ([1]). Those who are calling for the expungements (aside from McCarthy) are right leaning, though I had thought a good portion of them were Freedom Caucus members (Marjorie Taylor Greene endorsed the proposed expungements but was kicked out of the Freedom Caucus).

On a final note, should the vote take place, I think it would just be a symbolic vote. If they do somehow manage to expunge them from the Congressional Record, which I don't think will happen, it will not change the fact that Trump had been impeached by the House twice (and acquitted in the Senate twice). Yeah, I didn’t feel all too comfortable with the addition of these categories and have considered moving to remove them myself. Since they are not (by the sourced content) clearly-stated to be examples of these things. Particularly concerning the backsliding cat. SecretName101 (talk) 16:54, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Before bringing this up, I went through to see if there was any mention of democratic backsliding, and that maybe there was a misunderstanding, but nope...nothing relating to it. Regarding the other two in question, I think they're questionable because on the one hand, some of the more extreme members of the House Republicans like Marjorie Taylor Greene have endorsed the proposals, though I wouldn't say that alone would be reason to add it to an extremism category, or adding it to the category relating to far-right politics in the United States.
