Extreme US bias in this article[edit]
In the UK, a prison farm is a very different concept. Farms exist only on prisons of the lowest security category, and it is one of several work details for which inmates might opt, with a scope of choice. While the work might sometimes be hard, in is not the sort of penal forced labour of the US system: this is not legally enforcible in the UK. If information is specific to one country, that should be specified: it is arrogant to make a statement like prisoners may make license plates under contract to the state Department of Motor Vehicles and assume that the reader will assume that this information pertains to the USA. - I agree completely.
- If an article currently contains only American information, so be it.
- But it’s extremely irritating to see Wikipedia articles refer to things like “the Federal Government” or “the Department of Motor Vehicles”, as if America, unless otherwise specified, is somehow the default location in which events occur and institutions exist. 118.211.12.148 (talk) 14:44, 14 December 2023 (UTC)

Prison labor is not forced in the U.S. It is an option an inmate may choose and most if not all are compensated for their labor.
