This is primarily a "list" article. However the article Roman Catholic Diocese of Verdun has what appears at first glance the same list with a considerable number of earlier bishops. This isn't my area - I'm just looking - however a merge should probably be considered. Peter Flass (talk) 12:59, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct- for centuries, Verdun was controlled for long periods of time via the bishopric as a governmental entity rather than an ecclesiastical diocese. In the 13th and 14th centuries the bishopric actually lost power because of a financial transaction ceding power to the three wealthiest families of Verdun, known as the Lignages de Verdun- de la Porte, d'Azannes and d'Estouf.
