Melissa McCarthy born in Plainfield?

This article indicates that Melissa McCarthy was born in Plainfield. I don't doubt that she may have lived in Plainfield, but was she actually born in Plainfield? There is no hospital within Plainfield. Squideshi (talk) 18:35, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Ernie Banks?

As far as I know, Ernie Banks does not live in Plainfield, IL. Orphaned references in Plainfield, Illinois

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Plainfield, Illinois's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Acknowledgement of Potawatomi in lead

Hey everyone - I am from Plainfield, relatively new to editing Wikipedia pages, and interested in starting a discussion about the inclusion of an acknowledgment of the Potawatomi people's presence in what is now Plainfield before the arrival of European settlers - more specifically, I believe this is best suited for the lead section. I made an edit to reflect this, and it was reverted due to it being redundant. My idea to do this came from reading the Wikipedia article on Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, which includes an acknowledgment of the Lenape Tribal Nation in the lead along with more detailed information about the area's earliest history and stewards in the first part of its History section.

The article for Plainfield, Illinois currently lacks as deep of a section on pre-colonial history as the article for Upper Darby; this is just a smaller article in general, of course, but I'm wondering if someone can illuminate for me what the precedent is for including or excluding acknowledgement of indigenous people groups in the lead section of articles on municipalities in the US and Canada. From my point of view, extirpating acknowledgement of indigenous people from the lead discursively discounts their relevance to the development of the community. The reason I think a short acknowledgment makes the most sense in the lead is that the lead is where the geographic definitions of the municipality are stated first. The very first sentence names the counties and state that Plainfield is located in, but if we're looking at history holistically, this land was not always called Plainfield, and the definitions of Will County, Kendall County and Illinois were all established pretty recently, relatively speaking.

My basic take is this: I think that the historic residents of this land and what they were/are called is just as relevant to the lead section as the state, counties and population. I am not proposing that the article be renamed or any of the content related to Plainfield's post-colonial history - which is naturally buoyed by much better documentation and source materials - be excluded in favor of the pre-colonial history. However, I don't really see anything wrong with extending the first sentence by a few words to acknowledge the Potawatomi, with an expansion on that acknowledgment leading the History section as most would expect.

I recognize that editors are not activists, but to me, the excessive weight given to the settler point of view on pages like this is problematic for maintaining NPOV. Perhaps my opinions on this transcend this article and would be better suited elsewhere! I figured that my hometown's Wikipedia article would be a good place to make an edit like this and see what would happen. I suppose I was just a little disappointed to see that it was reverted, and if other editors watching this page could offer me any advice on how to improve this article's acknowledgment of the Potawatomi in Plainfield's early history, I would really appreciate feedback.
