Picture[edit]

Just about any body part can be pinched, so why go straight for the dick pic? 76.244.149.253 (talk) 11:59, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It was the only picture like this I could find on commons. Tatterfly (talk) 16:25, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

The result of the proposal was not moved. As discussed, it's not clear based on the evidence presented that the action is much more likely than any other usage of the title, including the cooking term, to be the subject being sought when a reader enters that term in the search box.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:36, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

– Per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, a pinch of the skin (or any other object) is the most common use of the word "pinch." All the other uses are either stubs or quite obscure. Tatterfly (talk) 16:29, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment. I'm willing to be convinced, but when I saw this Pinch (cooking) (as in "a pinch of salt") immediately leapt into my mind. I would think the cooking usage is as primary as the action. Jenks24 (talk) 18:40, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Still, Pinch (action) is primary. The cooking term's meaning, is derived from the action, and besides it is a short stub. The action has a greater amount of pageview stats than the cooking term. [1][2]. Tatterfly (talk) 21:20, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to go with oppose. The quality of the article has little, if anything, to do with the primary topic. The page view stats (600 for the action vs 500 for the cooking term) is not enough to show a clear primary topic, which is what's required. Jenks24 (talk) 21:08, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose The question, though, is whether the case is overwhelming that the action is the primary use, rather than the quantity. Considering how many times pinch turns up in recipes, I would think that would be very difficult to prove. Skinsmoke (talk) 03:17, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose cooking is highly likely, so the action of pinching is not clearly primary. 76.65.129.5 (talk) 05:17, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dreaming test[edit]

Although I've never heard of it happening in real life, it ought to be mentioned that pinching is used in fiction to check whether one is dreaming, usually to comedic effect if they are, in fact, awake. There could even be a 'cultural connotations' section, involving how pinching of various body parts is considered a mildly sexual act of flirtation. Maybe other cultures have connotations as well. Who invented the pinch?[edit]

Who was the first?..science. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:642:4100:A1A0:A52B:F61B:1386:29E9 (talk) 02:24, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
