Robert Clive[edit]

I'll start by saying I have a conflict of interest here as I attended the former Stand Grammar School for Boys on Church Lane. It was well-known then that the claim regarding Robert Clive's attendance at the school was at best tenuous, and probably an invention of the Victorian era. This despite the school naming a house after him, again arguably as part of an invention of tradition. Clive was a troublesome child and attended several schools but, barring verification from a high-quality source, I don't think we should be stating his attendance as a certainty in this article (and I think the present kids should be taught about the invention of tradition, just as they were in my day!) - Sitush (talk) 00:32, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Comprehensive[edit]

A further point, on re-reading. We say that the council adopted the comprehensive system in 1979. Not true: there were already some comprehensive schools in the borough, eg: that at Unsworth which later became known as Castlefield Comprehensive. - Sitush (talk) 22:01, 30 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
