The page [1] cited as a source on the no-track trivia explanation does not seem to have any information about Pennington Field or Bedford, TX other than a not-quite-related reference to HEB ISD. Until another source (or counter-source?) is found, I replaced the citation with {{Fact}}. --Hebisddave 16:31, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Possible addition to article[edit]

I believe the current Pennington Field is the second ballfield to have that name. Fred Pennington, for whom the field is named, coached at L.D.Bell High School in 1959-60, and took a team that had been 2-8 the previous year and turned it into an 8-2 team. I was a senior and starter on the 1959 team. In the summer of 1960, coach Pennington was teaching some children how to swim at his home pool and was electrocuted while plugging in a light (this is my memory). I believe that shortly thereafter, the existing high school field located behind what was then L.D. Bell High School was renamed Pennington Field, and the name apparently carried forward when the new stadium now going by that name was built. I don't have references for this except my memory, but someone may have better documentation.

Thanks for your help! This information seems legitimate to me, it's familiar, and I think I've seen it before. I went ahead and added a few sentences to the article about the previous field and the namesake coach. --216.62.101.13 16:07, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
