About page move from Asfordby Hall[edit]

This building was not Asfordby Hall, but the Old Hall. The real Asfordby Hall was located at 52°45′46″N 0°57′27″W / 52.762807°N 0.957538°W / 52.762807; -0.957538, on the other side of Main Street about 300m southwest by west. Both Asfordby Hall and this building are clearly designated, by name, on the 1884 1:2,500 Ordinance Survey map of Leicestershire, which can be seen by clicking on those coords, then in GeoHack selecting "Old OS maps" on the right hand side, and then on that page selecting "View at old-maps.co.uk" on the right hand side. In the page that comes up, the 1884 1:2,500 Ordinance Survey map of Leicestershire should be the first map at the top of the available maps selection. Click on "Enlarge Map" (which actually only puts it into the viewing window) then once it loads click on it and the real Asfordby Hall will be at the center. Scroll right and up a bit and you can see the Old Hall. Asfordby Hall was torn down in 1965 when Hall Drive was built, per this non-Wikireliable source. (Which has a photo by Frith.) A bit of searching in Google Books will reveal that Asfordby Hall was leased by Henry Lowther, 3rd Earl of Lonsdale from the Burnaby family and that Hugh Lowther, 5th Earl of Lonsdale and Lancelot Lowther, 6th Earl of Lonsdale lived there. Though their "seat" was Lowther Castle, their residence was Asfordby Hall (probably because they were huge sportsmen, fox-chasers, and Asfordby Hall was considered to be a hunting lodge).
