Name of Channel[edit]

Perhaps we should move RTÉ to RTI. IrishTV (talk) 10:40, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps we should engage in constructive debate instead of making sarcastic remarks! From the Broadcasting act 2009, Chapter 6, section 2: "The Commission of the Houses of the Oireachtas may establish, fund and provide a television broadcasting service to be known as, in the Irish language, Bealach Thithe an Oireachtais or, in the English language, the Houses of the Oireachtas Channel,..". As this is the English language wikipedia and not Vicipeid, we use the English language title. The exceptions to this are when entities are known in the English language by their Irish language name, for example; Oireachtas, Dáil Éireann, Taoiseach etc. This exception clearly does not apply in this case. See also Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Ireland-related articles)#Use of the Irish language. Snappy (talk) 12:09, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I just think that it is a waste of your time renaming it when the channel more than likely in line with other Semi-State Public service broadcaster will use their Irish Name or at least BTO rather than HOC. But sure we will wait and see. IrishTV (talk) 15:29, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hardly a waste of time, it takes several seconds to move an article! There is no point speculating on the name of this proposed channel until it actually goes on air. Anyway, if it goes ahead, it will be called Houses of the Oireachtas Channel because that is its legal name according to the 2009 act. Snappy (talk) 17:04, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
