County[edit]

This article does not cite any "official" reference for any part of the town being contained in Fairfax County. Although the USGS and Census maps are usually reliable sources, they are secondary sources and not immune from error. The only authoritative source for such information would be the act of the General Assembly of Virginia chartering the town. Never mind, found it myself and added citation to the article. According to Virginia law, "The Town of Occoquan, in the county of Prince William, shall continue to be a town corporate ..." (Virginia statutes 1930, c. 226; 1993, c. 680) R'n'B (call me Russ) 16:01, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have a question.

I've noticed a lot of jostling for position of external links where sites are coming and going and the current situation has me at a loss to understand the basic - why? I can understand the town site, occoquan.org being listed. It contains content for town meetings and such and is relevant to town residents. But who is the audience here? I can understand the prince william county site, but as a second listing? It doesn't have specific Occoquan information, does it? The third listing is a blog which talks about Occoquan, but includes areas around DC. So why is it 3rd? The fourth listing is a bona fide website listing all the events in town, all the merchants in town, and has pictures of some of these. It focuses exclusively on Occoquan and contains information that I would think useful to the casual person especially if they want to know what is going on in town and want to make plans. So why is this link the 4th link? The fifth listing is a website that is rarely updated and lists some shops, several of which are no longer in existance....so why is it listed higher than the last link shown? The sixth listing is another bona fide website that talks about the Occoquan area, but not focused on Occoquan, VA - the town....but more relevant than a blog which goes beyond...

I can find no rhyme or reason for the order of the links. If it is to provide relevant information to a visitor would this order make sense? It seems to me that some of the lower listing - especially the last should be higher. The current 4th listing probably higher still.

Talking about blogs, I've seen a blog being listed here that was specific to the town and talked about shopping. You have to remember, like in the picture on the page, Historic Occoquan is filled with shops. But this blog was removed... so why do we have a blog that discusses someones opinion and which talks about Occoquan and beyond... which means it's not exclusively Occoquan.

Can someone explain this to me? I'd really like to know.

Missing history[edit]

Occoquan had a vital part in history as women battled for their right to vote. What happened at Occoquan was pretty awful.
