Shakespeare

I watched this film and, while it is obviously and unashamedly an updating of Othello, I don't recall seeing The Bard's name once in the credits. Am I wrong? If I am correct, should that not be mentioned? WookMuff 04:42, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

It is a mistake to refer to this film as an adaptation of Shakespeare. Although its story is heavily influenced by his play, the movie does not make use of Shakespeare's words. We must remember that Shakespeare himself was not the creater of the story, but only the author of what has become the most popular version (a version of the same story by the Italian writer Giovanni Battista Giraldi (Cinthio) predates Shakespeare's version by half of a century). Thus, this film is, like Shakespeare's play, an independant work in itself and should not be thought of only in terms of Shakespeare's far greater work.
