Monthly expenses

Regarding this edit that noted Nortel publishing its expenses and revenues, it's not a terribly notable event for a company to do so (I assume this is a standard practice for companies in similar situations). It's kind of like adding to the lead of every publicly traded company that it publishes an annual report—it's not remarkable and so does not warrant mentioning within the text. However, if you can find a link to a listing of all of its monthly reports, rather than just one report, then it might be suitable for the "External links" section (you can consult Wikipedia's guidance on external links and determine if it is a fit). isaacl (talk) 21:47, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

Article introduction

In my opinion there are other areas of the article that deserve much more attention. To me at least, the article reads like a laundry list. There should be more emphasis on the human element. For example I would get rid of the following section in the introduction and replace it with something telling the reader how many people used to work for this multinational company until fairly recently and what happened to them:

It is appropriate for the disposition of Nortel's major assets to be noted, and this does cover to some extent what happened to Nortel employees. Of course there are many others who were let go. The introduction ought to be expanded to cover Nortel's entire history; I'll see if I get the chance to do it at some point. Isaac Lin (talk) 20:34, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

So what happened to Nortel's former products?

When Nortel went under, what happened to the product support for their PBX's?

It sounds like all support for Nortel's former product lines suddenly evaporated overnight and Nortel PBX/phone users are supposed to just dump their otherwise functional Nortel hardware, and now install a new PBX from some other manufacturer.

Seems a shame for potentially millions of dollars worth of hardware to just suddenly be declared obsolete because the parent company went bankrupt. Nobody bought up the former customer base for Nortel's products?

The integration and protection of legacy Nortel assets (procured by Avaya - which is almost all the PBX and Data networking equipment) is ensured by Avaya for 6 years. wikiproject Nortel has been deleted

I hadn't noticed until I saw your note. It appears those of us working to improve the Nortel articles were unfairly lumped in with some Avaya wrong-doers. I just wish those of us on the Nortel WikiProject were consulted before it was outright deleted. Pjhansen (talk) 18:23, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Anyone interested in trying to revive this wikiproject?

It has been suggested that instead of wasting breath talking about how this highly unusual deletion of a wikiproject happened, it would be best to take it to Wikipedia:Deletion review. I don't really have the time to do this all by myself, but believe it is important, if nothing else to protect the suite of Category: Nortel articles from also being deleted quietely, one by one, by the same people who supported the deletion of the wikiproject.

A wikiproject makes it much easier to keep a "community eye" on all the articles belonging to it. Any suggestions? Ottawahitech (talk) 15:26, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

I would support its revival if, and only if, it is truly a Nortel-centric WikiProject. I've been slowly trying to catch up on all the Avaya issues and have to tend to agree their promotional content has no place here. There is value in historical, in-depth details about significant (ie, patented) products and/or technologies that had impact the telecommunications industry. For example, there are a number of telecommunications protocols that were invented by Nortel and should be properly documented as such. I recently began updating a series of pages (1, 2, 3, 4) to ensure they represent the fact these protocols were developed at Nortel. Regardless of the fact the patents for these technologies are now owned by Avaya, the technology was created by Nortel and an encyclopedic article should leave it at that. In fact, I'm on the fence about even listing the Avaya products on some of these articles - would love some input on that. It's examples such as these where I feel they would have been incorrectly flagged for deletion due to the Avaya spam added... whereas now they are a step closer to being factual about a meaningful technology.
With end of year fast approaching, my time on here has been minimal lately, but would be happy to help bring this to Wikipedia:Deletion review and revive the Nortel project as a true Nortel (not Avaya-related) initiative. Pjhansen (talk) 02:18, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Nortel articles are being removed from Wikipedia

One of the editors who was originally involved in the deletion of the Nortel wikiproject, has now proposed five articles from the suite of nortel articles for deletion. Was anyone aware of this? Ottawahitech (talk) 16:02, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

New lists created to help keep track of deletions

Since wikiproject Nortel has been deleted we no longer have a way of tracking Nortel articles which face deletion processes. I have therefore created a few more Nortel-lists. This category contains 5 lists that (hopefully) link to all Nortel-related articles on Wikipedia:
