When qualified observers from RCAF Air Observation Post squadrons applied to join branches of the Aircrew Association in Canada, their applications were refused on the grounds that cloth wings had not been issued to the applicants. In some cases, applicants who had flown in action in Europe in 1945 - and had proven themselves in aerial-directed combat - had retained certification and log books proving their status as aircrew. One such applicant in Nanaimo, British Columbia, was eventually allowed to join a local branch of the association. After his money was accepted by the local Aircrew Association treasurer, no other member of the branch would speak to the 'non breveted' member or to his wife at weekly gatherings, thus forcing the member out by silent exclusion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.51.105.179 (talk) 16:45, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
