WP:Japan Assessment Commentary[edit]

I assessed this article and it appears to be a good start. Some points for improvement:

References: I have pointed out on the article where I believe some facts and/or claims need in-line citations.
Coverage: So far the article is mostly descriptive. For good coverage, I believe it should have a section on the history of the nijumon, when was the first recorded nijumon built, inspirations, earlier types.
- Since these structures are related to religious buildings, a section on any deeper meaning attributed to the gate would be helpful. Does this gate seperate the profane and the sacred? Are there any traditions or prohibitions associated with them? Why are "statues of Shakyamuni or of goddess Kannon, and of the 16 Rakan" found in these gates? What sort of ceremonies are held in the 2nd story?
- And are there similar structures in the other branches of Buddhism (outside Japan)?
Structure: The Lead section can be divided. The lead should be a brief definition and introduction to topic. Some topics need several paragraphs to properly summarize the content. The lead for this article is taken care of with the first two, maybe three sentences. The second paragraph (and possibly the last sentence of the first paragraph) can go in a section labelled "Design", "Layout", "Concept" or something similar. That section should then be followed by "History", "Significance", "Variations", etc., until "Gallery". The "Second story..." should probably be a Gallery sub-section
- By the way, I'm glad those 2nd story photos are included. I always wonder what's in the 2nd story, and imagined maintenance stuff like rakes and brooms and mops.
