Did it play a part in the war?[edit]

When I contacted one of Van de Stadt’s grandchildren, he told me that his mother had mentioned that when Japan occupied the Dutch East Indies, each officer carried a copy of this Japanese-Dutch dictionary. The grandson added that his mother was probably overstating the case. I am curious though, what role the dictionary played during the occupation, and how many copies were used.
