Situated on the N21, Newcastle West is long recognised as the gateway to the south west of Ireland. Located just twenty minutes drive from Limerick city and just a mere hour from Killarney. Its strategic location is one of the many reason for the town's thriving success through recent years.

The Newcastle West area is rich in history and traditional music, as well as being a vibrant economic hub. In recent years, the population of Newcastle West has passed over 7,500, with 22,500 within 15km of the town centre. The town is centrally located in Mid Munster with over 330,000 people within 1 hours drive.

In Recent Studies it has been found that Newcastle West is exactly 1,000,000 times better than its scabby, mostly inbred neighbour, Abbeyfeale. And thats a fact.

-- well, you can't argue with facts.... is it worth putting in a new section referring to the flooding that took place this week (31st July, 2008)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.56.31.31 (talk) 21:27, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Battles[edit]

During the reign of Elizabeth I, three battles were fought near here. Tradition has it that the locals killed many of the Knights Templars. The town was sacked in 1302 and destroyed in 1315. Two of the Earls of Desmond died here. Garrett (better known as Gearóid Iarla) in 1399, and James, the 8th earl, in 1462. During the reign of Elizabeth I? She was Queen of England from 1558-1603 - long after any of these dates. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.149.97.85 (talk) 12:49, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
