Jordan Williams bio (hopefully) coming soon[edit]

Just quickly noting that I've created Draft:Jordan Williams (New Zealand lawyer) and submitted it for review. It's incomplete and editable in the meantime.

NPOV - Lead Section[edit]

The lead section is politically biased. Phrases such as "self-described taxpayer pressure group…" and "claims to be politically independent…" are irrelevant because TPU is not making these claims contrary to cited sources. They should be given the benefit of the doubt - that they are a taxpayer pressure group, and that they are politically independent, unless anyone can cite reliable sources to say otherwise.

The sentences on TPU's funding sources is also politicised. It's normal for donor-based lobby groups to refuse to release details of their funding - political parties do that all the time. Furthermore, in the article cited (about British American Tabacco), TPU gave a statement:

  • "We have actually thousands of donors, some of whom are businesses, but our positions and the campaigns that we undertake are not dictated by those donors - we'd refuse any funding that came with obligations that would distract from our core mission".

An appropriate NPOV article would mention BAT as a donor in 2019, but also note that TPU opposes the notion that donors influence TPUs policy in any way. A final note on this point is that in the article, BAT admit to paying "a standard annual corporate membership fee" - which brings forth a notability question. If BAT only pays a standard membership fee, and cannot influence TPU decisions, how is it notable?

Finally, the explanation of why TPU is a right-wing pressure group is misleading and contradictory. TPU is right-wing because of their ideology, not because they happen to share close ties to individuals on the right wing. Also, in the "Personnel" section, it says that co-founder David Farrar says the TPU is neither "anti-left or right". So which is it? Is TPU "right-wing" or neither? Where does the author (in the lead section) get the idea that TPU is right-wing from? The three cited sources don't even say anything about TPUs political orientation.

I propose that the whole lead section be rewritten as it is misleading, contradictory in parts and clearly non-neutral. Lluq (talk) 04:09, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The last section on tobacco says the TU regularly opposes restrictions on tobacco products and e-cigarette but only cites one campaign as an example. Should cite the multiple campaign activities or be rewritten to reflect as a one-off campaign. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.29.254.48 (talk) 18:26, 16 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wow[edit]

Very interesting that this obvious vandalism edit stuck around for 2 years. I have added a NPOV tag. I'm really questioning this site now. Kiwiz1338 (talk) 04:19, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
