Moderate Islamist?[edit]

This news article describes the NFP leader as a "moderate Islamist", which is not mentioned here and seems to contradict this article's claim of a "liberal, progressive" party position. Does someone know which is correct? --Roentgenium111 (talk) 17:09, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Libya Herald article suggests that Magarief's classification as "moderate Islamist" might be a misjudgement by foreign reporters, based on the fact that he was backed by the Islamists in the Congress Speaker vote. This alliance however was a purely tactic, and not an ideologic one. Indeed, the NFP is "arguably the most liberal-leaning of all in Congress", according to the Libya Herald.

However, the article reminds that generally in Libyan politics personal relations and geographic origin play a much more important role than ideologic divisions. As all Libyan parties try to present themselves as moderate, neither too liberal nor too Islamist, categorizing them by ideology is always difficult. --RJFF (talk) 15:13, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
