"True dollar"[edit]

Have taken out the unsourced reference to "true dollars" - the idea that the only true dollars are those descended from Spanish pieces of eight is a nonsense, particularly given that the word dollar goes further back to Dutch Thalers. By that logic the only true dollars would be derived from the original Thalers. I've left in the factual discussion surrounding the reason for the adoption of the name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.108.62.185 (talk) 04:44, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Namibian mark[edit]

Does anybody know more about these proofs (worth, cataloguing)? I can't find them in any catalogue.

Thank you. 213.6.95.5 22:06, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

PS: I know the picture is horrible. I don't have a better one for now.

Meaning of 'Probe / Essai'[edit]

The meaning of both 'Probe' and 'Essai' is 'Trial', not 'Proof'. The word 'Probe' is from the German language and 'Essai' is from the French language. - (192.190.108.19 02:14, 12 February 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Namibian10.JPG[edit]

Image:Namibian10.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Mark and dollar "coins" of 1990 are not official issues[edit]

I have looked up the 1990 coins denominated in marks and dollars in G. & G. Schön's Weltmünzkatalog 20. & 21. Jahrhundert, 39th (2011) edition. According to this coin catalogue, they were commissioned by a Swiss agency of some sort, not by the central bank of Namibia. In other words, they do not have (and never had) any official status in Namibia, not even as test/pattern coins. They are bogus. For that reason, I suggest we remove the entire paragraph - perhaps leaving a single sentence in there just to avoid future editors putting the same data back in at a later stage. Any thoughts on this? Alfons Åberg (talk) 04:33, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
