grammar needs work[edit]

Contradiction with Kiri-Sute Gomen article[edit]

"In Japan, the samurai had a legal right known as kiri-sute gomen which allowed them to kill anyone of a lower class for perceived disrespect, which would have justified the killing by Shimazu's retinue." This contradicts the article on kiri-sure which states that only a single retaliatory strike was allowed. Per the conditions given in that article, the first strike would have been perfectly legal, while the 1) coup de grace by 2) multiple assailants would have both been very much illegal. These two articles can't both be correct unless the associated authorities were corrupt and willing to look past Shimazu's obvious dishonor. Not sure what to suggest besides getting the input of a genuine expert on kiri-sute gomen laws and whether they were actually enforced to help set the record straight. Either he very definitely broke the law or he didn't; the facts are too plain here to argue any kind of edge case. (At least, without bringing up that Richardson was a foreigner, but I don't find that point relevant if indeed kiri-sute gomen was seen as an act of self-defense, a samurai's life and honor being very much tied together). 68.60.202.174 (talk) 01:55, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
