Question[edit]

I can hardly understand the meaning of this sentence: It used to serve the Ingush residents of Vladikavkaz before the Muslim community was expelled from Ossetia in the 1990s. Please explain:

Does this sentence mean that the mosque used to serve only Ingush residents?
Who was expelled? All the Muslim community (i.e. Ossetians, Ingush people, the people of Dagestan living in Vladikavkaz)?

This sentence can be misunderstood, because:

1) the Mosque serves all the Muslim community in North Ossetia;

2) there was a conflict between the Ossete and Ingush people, but not between Christians and Muslims;

3) there are Ossetians practicing Islam and they hadn't been expelled.

I do not have any data concerning the number of parishioners, their nationalities. For me the most important thing is to avoid any kind of confusion. I would say that this sentence means that the Mosque used to serve only Ingush people, then they were expelled and there is no more Muslims in North Ossetia.
