Biographical Info[edit]

This entry would obviously benefit from the inclusion of more biographical information such as Whitekey's birthname, birthdate, and birthplace.

His birth name is better left as an Alaskan mystery. I believe he was originally from South Dakota, but that's as far as I know there. He's always closely guarded any info related to his age or birth date, but I can't imagine it being that hard to find out. For example, he owned a bar, so it's going to be found on any liquor license application involving the bar. That may be considered original research, though.

What else this page could use:

  • A discography. Whitekeys has released numerous albums over the years (the earliest one I'm aware of was released in 1972), mostly under the band name The Fabulous Spamtones, but under other band names as well.
  • Information on his beginnings as a bar band musician in Alaska during the 1970s. Whitekeys figures very prominently in the history and folklore of Chilkoot Charlie's. In fact, he coined their slogan "We cheat the other guy and pass the savings on to you."
  • A little history of the Fly By Night Club itself. The original location of the club (long since replaced by the Millennium Alaskan Hotel) was previously the Idle Hour Supper Club, an historically significant establishment in Anchorage. Both in this location, and their later location at the corner of 33rd and Spenard, Whitekeys would list a long line of businesses which preceeded him in the building, ending with the phrase "Going out of business regularly in the same location for over 30 years.

I know his birth name, but do not currently have a source for it. I do believe, however, it was mentioned in a Alaska Daily News article when Whitekeys sold the Fly By Night Club, so there might be an article still on the net. Whitekeys tends to keep his real name out of the public, and from my own dealings with him, he seems to be a very private person despite his flamboyant public persona. I have the impression that he wishes to keep his name private (note WP:Biography of Living Persons on privacy, I'm not quite sure how to apply it in this situation). At the moment, I'll just say his initials are D.H. and that I believe he was born in 1947 (but you will need a reliable source before you can add that to the article). I don't recall the month or day at the moment, but I'm not trying very hard, neither. — al-Shimoni (talk) 05:26, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The first paragraph of this thread was an unsigned anon comment, which I responded to. If you're new to this, the article has been vandalized by IP editors, and this talk page likewise by an SPA, for the better part of the past two years over this very issue. This included the removal of valid sourced content. You can peruse the revision history of both pages and make your own judgement. The fundamental issue here is that "Mr. Whitekeys" is a character portrayed by someone who goes by another name. Failure to even recognize that fact, under cover of as-yet-ill-defined BLP concerns, itself presents WP:INUNIVERSE concerns. His obsessive personal privacy issues, if the root of this vandalism, also suggests a belief that this article exists as part of his social media strategy. I certainly don't do this to create mirrors of official websites, and I tend to become suspicious when I see edits which take articles in that direction. Unfortunately, this article enters enough into the realm of being a vanity piece that few people really give a shit. I don't think that it's even hit the BLP noticeboard, despite editing activity which would make it a prime candidate.
