Name[edit]

Miriam Chaszczewacka appears a more correct spelling: used by slightly more sources, and fits the Polish language grammar better. --_{Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here} 21:48, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Piotrus: I trust you are correct about Polish grammar. I assume it's a matter of last name changing its ending depending on the person's gender. Since it is not customarily in English, usually the name is spelled in its masculine variation even for women when transcripted to English. Google tests shows preference for Chaszczewacki:

"Miriam Chaszczewacka" yields 50 results on google, "Miriam Chaszczewacka's diary" gives 5 results.
"Miriam Chaszczewacki" gives 87 results, "Miriam Chaszczewacki's diary" gives 7 results.

Not an overwhelming difference, yet a difference. More importantly, the primary source used through the article, "Children of Dust and Heaven : A Diary from Nazi Occupation through the Holocaust" spells her name with a final i. “WarKosign ” 10:09, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the "I" option is better. A Polish article spell her name as "Haszczewicka", different than the "Polish" name used here. It is better to use the spell as in "Children of Dust and Heaven", since it contains the English version of the diary. Also this is the English version of Wikipedia, not the Polish one.
