Pictures

How relevant is a picture of an 1894 sandstorm to a modern city? While interesting, it should not be the only photograph with the article...--BNJT 13:57, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

Why was the picture of the skyline changed? I personally think view from the northwest seen in Image:Downtown midland.jpg is more attrative than the view from the east in the new shot. Also, the new shot, Image:MLDND l.jpg, has no fair use rationale. If none is provided soon, I suggest a re-vert. KeithJonsn 05:21, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

show of support

it would be nice to see mentioned in your history of Midland Texas, the great things the Show Of Support accomplishes with it's director, Terry Johnson. This program in my opinion has put the city on the Map more than any other famous person, including the President who claims this city home. The program is very supportive of Wounded Soldiers who have fought in Iraq and Afganistan. I just think it should be mentioned in the history of Midland.

impact of oil

In 1981, eight of Forbes Magazine's Richest People in the US were from Midland. Where's the story? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 170.211.38.28 (talk) 18:42, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Info Box - Metric vs. US Customary

I am doing an altitude profile survey of the east-west interstate system, and have noticed that the Midland TX info box indicating area, elevation, etc., give the units primarily in metric with US customary in parenthesis -- this is the opposite practice in all the other city info boxes I have come across.

Should this be changed in the interests of conformity? (and the fact that the dominant system of measurement in America is the US customary?) I did not notice the swap until I saw a jump in my data set. Others might not. 76.88.234.97 (talk) 15:29, 11 June 2008 (UTC) KatellaGate

Somewhat inaccurate statement in introduction

"The city has received national recognition as the hometown of President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush."

While the First Lady was born in Midland, the president was actually born in New Haven, Conn. Midland would be more accurately described as his "childhood home."

You are correct. I went ahead and made that change. I have seen his birthplace and his "adopted" hometown of Crawford both also listed as his "hometown." It seems to be an easy enough ambiguity to avoid.
If I can see a citation of Bush himself calling Midland his hometown, I think it would be rightfully reverted. The official White House biography lists where he was born, though the children's biography lists Midland as his "hometown" in the context of his life as a child. Does anyone else have thoughts on this? Cnkimpel 23:02, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

In his original nomination speech, as well as a few other speeches, hes been known to reference Midland as his hometown. He also referenced its slogan there as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.221.99.8 (talk) 03:41, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Spaceport? in Midland. Now has it's launch license.

I don't see anything in the article about it, but this article says that the Midland airport (spaceport?) has now been issued it's launch license by the FAA: [1]. Perhaps a source for improving the article? N2e (talk) 12:20, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
