Neutrality[edit]

The main A Chorus Line paints a very different picture of Bennett's role in ACL than this article does. hbdragon88 (talk) 23:26, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've rewritten it. hbdragon88 (talk) 03:20, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The genius of Bennett section[edit]

The section reads either like original research or--hopefully-- material from some good reliable references/sources. Either way, this section seems to be counter to several key guidelines: No original research WP:NOR and Verifiability WP:VERIFY, and should be revised/deleted/sourced as appropriate. Post-separation relationship with McKechnie[edit]

One of these two contradictory sentences should be deleted, perhaps both: "In spite of the divorce the two remained close friends until his death. However, in the 2006 revival of A Chorus Line's biopic, "Every Little Step", McKechnie indicated she was persona non grata since their separation in 1977 til his death, which she read about in a newspaper." – TL/DR - Michael Bennett isn't the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC (fails usage), so it should be moved to Michael Bennett (director) which then allows the existing DAB of Michael Bennett (disambiguation) to move to Michael Bennett per WP:DABNAME ("The title of a disambiguation page is the ambiguous term itself, provided there is no primary topic for that term."). UW Dawgs (talk) 02:42, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Here are the two relevant criteria for WP:PRIMARYTOPIC:

There is no single criterion for defining a primary topic. However, there are two major aspects that are commonly discussed in connection with primary topics:

  • A topic is primary for a term, with respect to usage, if it is highly likely—much more likely than any other topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined—to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term.
  • A topic is primary for a term, with respect to long-term significance, if it has substantially greater enduring notability and educational value than any other topic associated with that term.

Michael Bennett is an incredibly common name as you might suspect. See Michael Bennett (disambiguation), including:

  • Michael Bennett (1943–1987) was an American musical theater director, writer, choreographer, and dancer.

Variations on the name:

with respect to usage, here are the last 90 days of page views for each article via tools.wmflabs.org as linked via each Article ("Page information" (left nav) > "Page view statistics" (footer)):

Variations on the name:

So re usage, Michael Bennett with 14,294 page views clearly cannot be the PRIMARYTOPIC ("more likely than all the other topics combined") when there is 10x more usage (150k+ page views) on the other "Michael Bennett (xxx)" articles.

evaluating long-term significance therefore becomes irrelevant, as we're not trying to determine a new PRIMARYTOPIC, such as Michael Bennett (defensive lineman, born 1985).

Absent a valid PRIMARYTOPIC, WP:DABNAME says "The title of a disambiguation page is the ambiguous term itself, provided there is no primary topic for that term." Hence the two proposed moves.
