"Controversies"

While I do agree that having a "Controversies" section is generally irksome, I couldn't find any other way to incorporate the content from this section into any other section. Moreover, WP:MOSFILM advises the inclusion of such a section if the film is indeed controversial. I don't understand Cyphoidbomb's disapproval of the NPOV, though. I've made the section as neutral as possible. While the information in the section isn't comprehensive (yet), I do think it's neutral. - Nirinsanity (talk) 15:34, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi Nirinsanity, though the language isn't particularly biased, I feel it's lacking contrary viewpoints. The essence of neutrality is presenting both sides of an argument. I don't see that MOS:FILM suggests a unique section. There is a section in the MOS that talks about how to write about controversies, but it's not clear to me that this should be interpreted as "advising the inclusion" of a unique section. Maybe I'm missing something. Controversy sections are not prohibited by policy, but there is a generally lukewarm response to them as they tend to spotlight negative events, which makes it hard to keep the article neutral. Perhaps incorporating this into a general Response section, where critical response (reviews) and other response (the controversial content) could exist might be a way to go. Not sure. Is it possible to add the names of the characters in the Telegu version as well, maybe even add a telegu film poster. If possible, a separate page could be made (but it might be pointless, since the plot is the same).

@XSrey:  Not done. Our cast list has 20 people on it and we'd need translations for all 20 or we'd have blank spaces. The easiest way to start to deal with this would probably be trimming that list. (We've got "Hospital HR," "Nurse," "Nurse," "a Prisoner," and "Kasi, Daniel's henchman." These are all probably very minor characters who really don't need to be listed.) A poster addition could be complicated since Wikipedia is pretty cautious when it comes to images, although it seems likely any movie posters are in the public domain since their creators want them disseminated far and wide.

I'll ask you since I don't know and the review you linked to wasn't clear. When you say "Telugu version," do you mean a different movie? Or is it the same movie with its original language, Tamil, replaced by Telugu? CityOfSilver 05:42, 28 November 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for replying. When I said telegu, I meant the telegu dubbed version (it wasn't made simultaneously in Telegu, it was just dubbed into Telegu). I agree that some of the cast members is kind of unnecessary (like the Nurse for example. I hope this clarification is helpful. By the way, I myself am not a Telegu speaking person, I actually the Tamil one (the Telegu one is called Adirindhi). If you search up Adirindhi and look for reviews, you might find helpful information regarding the characters. Thank you!

@CityOfSilver: Film posters are not by default in the public domain. They're still copyrighted or at least assumed to be copyrighted, just like anything else, unless otherwise noted. We should always assume images, prose, even TV episode loglines are copyrighted unless expressly released. Under fair-use, we can use a low-res poster image in the infobox to identify the subject even if copyrighted, but anything beyond that is decorative and it would be difficult to claim fair use. Starring roles

@Rafikahamed96: I've reverted your recent edits. You seem to have unilaterally decided that there's only one starring role in the film. I don't know if that's correct, but you neither provided a reference, nor did you explain your changes. Your changes also created an inconsistency in the |starring= parameter of the infobox, where you left three names. If there was only credited star of the film, there would be no justification for having three names in the |starring= parameter. Anyhow, please explain and bring references if this is of importance to you. Oh, you also changed the gross without providing a reference. Please don't do that in the future. Hello all! I'm normally a reviewer at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for Creation and someone has created a draft article entitled Draft:Controversies related to Mersal. My colleague TheBirdsShedTears mentioned that a portion of the information in that article is from the controversy section of this article.
