Fame And Opportunity Through Her Father[edit]

It should be made clearer through the wording in the page that she came to opportunity through her father's fame. Yes, she wrote a blog that people found interesting but that would not exist or get attention without her father being such a famous powerful person. Like so many other children of celebrities, her fame came directly as a result of her father's fame. 1.10.158.64 (talk) 09:36, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Lots of children of famous people turn out losers even criminals. Graduates of Harvard and Yale do nothing with their lives. Every person is their own agent who use opportunities they are given, or not. Every successful person has others to thank along the way. -- GreenC 04:57, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed photo[edit]

Hey guys, User talk:KyleJoan wanted me to propose using this photo, File:Meghan McCain 2018.jpg, as the new infobox photo, it's a better profile, no mic, no awkward glance sideways. Thoughts? User:The One I LeftDiscussion 04:01, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • The current and proposed images are above. I personally believe the proposed image is oddly lit in part due to the woman on McCain's right obstructing the light from hitting her in the uncropped image. The mic in the current image does not obscure her face in any capacity, and I don't think the angle creates any awkwardness about it. KyleJoantalk 08:23, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I'm gonna have to disagree, the second photo shows no signs of light being obscured, while the first does have a lubberly mic being in frame and the photo angle looks awkward to me. I feel like there's no question that the second photo shows a better perspective of her face. User:The One I LeftDiscussion 04:29, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • That's fine, but you need a consensus to change the infobox image, so how would you suggest we proceed? KyleJoantalk 08:33, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

John McCain's death[edit]

Should the lede include John McCain's birth and death years [i.e., John McCain (1936–2018)]? KyleJoantalk 04:37, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

diff. Seems relevant to indicated a famous parent is recently deceased to better place context. Also, calling him a "politician" doesn't help much in placing who he is, it would be better to say US Senator and Vietnam war hero. -- GreenC 04:48, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

But what does her father's death have to do with her and her notability? And is the death only relevant because he is "recently deceased"? How much time needs to pass before it becomes irrelevant? "US Senator" is too Americentric, and "Vietnam war hero" fails WP:NPOV. Let's not open the door for others to be able to insert "Trump critic". KyleJoantalk 04:56, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Add: If you believe "Vietnam war hero" is an appropriate description, why don't you include it in the lede of John McCain (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)? I'm actually curious what the users who watch that page would say about it. KyleJoantalk 05:05, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
