Hi, I created the Chola Empire page. It's my first contribution to Wikipedia outside of a few edits here and there at other pages. Let me know what you think of my article/page :). Thanks.

Hi, good source for the map, but it varies very much in the Chalukyan, Bengal, Kalinga extents, with the map of Rajendra Chola and Chola pages. I think uniformity should be maintained in all these maps. I think this one is good in source, extents, antiquity and can you place this one in above pages as well, I dont know how to .

Merging Chola Empire article with Chola

I propose to merge the Chola Empire article with the more extensive Chola article.

My reasons are as follows:

1. The Chola article is more coplete with information on the political as well as the cultural impact of the Cholas. It has sub articles on Chola Art, the various periods of the Chola history such as Early Cholas, Medieval Cholas etc.
2. The associated bio pages on the Chola rulers are nearing completion.
3. The Chola Empire article has unsupported information such as Rajendra Chola defeating Mahmud of Gazhni.
4. The Chola Empire article in my opinion does not have any additional information than the Chola article

I will be merging and redirecting the Chola Empire article to Chola if I don't hear any comments regarding the need to maintain both.

Chola Empire vs. Dynasty

You are not explaining yourself well enough. From your last revert, you stated that this article was about the dynasty and not the Empire. Are there two articles on the Cholas then? Is there one for the Chola dynasty, and one for the Chola Empire? If that is so, then I can understand. But, if it is only on article on the Cholas labelling them as only a dynasty, then that will be a problem. An empire consist of a kingdom which has territories beyond its borders and even beyond the seas. The Cholas do fall under the category of Empire since their kingdom have strectched from the Tamil country to the Maldives, Eastern India, Malaysia, Java, and Sumatra. It would be a very biased and POV thought to only label the Cholas as a dynasty, while the Mauryans are considered an empire. Wiki Raja 03:02, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

You are welcome to create an article about the Chola Empire dealing with its political nature, boundaries, etc and make it a sub article to the FA Chola Dynasty. Don't fork this article. Parthi ^{talk/contribs} 04:31, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

What is it here? Chola Empire is certainly an empire. I am not denying that. At the same time, Chola Dynasty is a dynasty. Both are not the same.
Chola Empire is Chola Empire.
Chola Dynasty is Chola Dynasty.
Chola Empire is not equal to Chola Dynasty.
Chola Dynasty is not equal to Chola Empire.

Bottom line: The article Chola Dynasty is about Chola Dynasty and not about Chola Empire.

I agree with KNM. A featured article like Chola Dynasty should not be moved to another title without discussion or consensus. It's also under gone mass edits without discussion. I propose moving it back to Chola Dynasty, wikifying/removing excess info, and if needed, creating a new article detailing the Chola's empire. Wubbabubba (talk) 19:02, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
