Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School is a point of interest? Really? --Colinbartlett (talk) 15:23, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Black History?[edit]

From doing research on the soldiers of the 54th Massachusetts, and seeing a bunch of their families in Mechanicsburg in the 19th century, I'd always assumed it was a large Black community, so was surprised to see the teensy minority of African Americans in the demographics on Wikipedia and nothing on Black history. Has anyone looked into this? Just doing a quick lazy race check on the 1900 federal census, it was 106 Black, 1 Mulatto, 3748 White, about 2.7% Black. So probably not "large" after all. Still, quite a few men served from here. Having studied the whole regiment for awhile now, and assuming there isn't some undocumented Black community from the 19th century, it kind of feels like there was an Underground Railroad presence? Maybe someone local can mosey over to one of the historic buildings and pester a historian? -kim. (talk) 00:45, 10 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you would like to add something on the subject, I recommend you do your own ground work instead of waiting for someone else. CiderFancy (talk) 22:46, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

Nothing about the etymology of the rather peculiar placename? fishhead64 (talk) 17:47, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

geography[edit]

Would there be any value in explaining that a swath of territory well beyond the borough itself ends up being called "Mechanicsburg," if only because of post office names? This seems to be somewhat common in this area. Annville, in Lebanon County, has the same bit going on.... PurpleChez (talk) 12:29, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
