"Incidents" section[edit]

@Philmonte101:: I believe including the accused person's name in this article is governed by this section of the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons policy.

Before I remove the name again or (to avoid WP:3RR) take the issue to Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard, I invite you to either

  • explain why that section of the BLP policy does does not apply to naming this person in this article,
  • explain why you have "seriously considered not including" the material but decided to include it anyway, and explain your reasoning, or
  • link to evidence of a conviction or guilty plea

Even if I'm is-reading that section of the BLP policy and it doesn't apply here, I still think including the name is editorially the wrong decision. For that matter, since those kinds of crimes are quite common in schools I think including the section is also the wrong editorial decision. When I rewrite the article, a thing I'll definitely include is a list of incidents with brief descriptions. The Lareal Watt incident is only one of these. I'm sure there are other incidents I can find somewhere. Philmonte101 (talk) 06:34, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if Daniel Archer really is notable enough for an article called Daniel Archer (sex offender), but he and his own incident are very important. This is because he is known all across the city of Mauldin for the incident. Seriously, ask any Mauldin student or faculty (if you go here). He's one of those town-known infamous people. Very important, especially at the current time period, because this effected many students in the present day, as said in this article. I will also write Mauldin Middle School. It is definitely a notable school incidentwise because of the massive amount of news articles/etc. just about Daniel Archer, updating his criminal status, such as, as of June, he was on bond, and that upset parents, etc. Daniel Archer is actually the most notable of all the people I've written about. This should definitely stay. Don't you agree that something that effects the thoughts and feelings of almost an entire town that has over 20 sources available should stay? I mean he distributed child pornography of over 150 students. This effects an entire 150 people, plus their friends and family. Very important incident indeed. Also, if you're wondering, it was indeed confirmed by police that he had child pornography of students, and he indeed was convicted and detained. He essentially already "ruined" his own life, which a lot of people here seem to be anxious that I'm going to do. But truthfully, Archer already ruined his own life, I'm just writing about it for informational purposes. Does that seem fair now to Wikipedia that it can look at it that way? 1) Criminals well-known only in their local area who would not be locally well-known but for their crimes are generally not considered notable by Wikipedia standards, even if they are locally infamous. It's kind of like small-town Mayors, small-town star High School athletes, and even small-town preachers: They get a lot of press and may even get a small amount of press in neighboring counties, but any article about them will likely fail at WP:Articles for deletion. Even criminals who got "flash in the pan" media coverage "worldwide" (these days wire services will carry just about anything on a slow news day) may fail if the coverage was not ongoing.
2) Middle schools are almost always deleted at WP:AFD. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Common outcomes#Schools for details. For that matter, read the rest of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Common outcomes, you may find it educational.
3) In Wikipedia terms, important != notable. People and events that are "locally important" typically fail at AFD.
4) Having a conviction may sway a "close" argument over WP:BLP issues with respect to one-line mentions of a person in a larger article. However, it will be much more difficult to sustain a full-blown article about such a person.
5) Wikipedia:Notability (events), Wikipedia:Notability (people), Wikipedia:Who is a low-profile individual, Wikipedia:What is one event, and Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons are all worth at least skimming if not reading in depth.

1 image is better than 2 in the infobox[edit]

Having 2 images pushes the "text" part of the infobox below the fold on most PC screen sizes, forcing the user to scroll down to see it.

I recommend moving one of the images to somewhere else in the article or deleting it entirely.

Sports[edit]

All this article talks about now is sports and athletics. It's now only geared towards one specific audience. The high school receives a whole lot of mentions from the press.
