Name translation[edit]

Regarding the translation for Matsuyama - my understanding is that the second kanji is "yama" (山), which means mountain, not hill. Shouldn't the meaning be "Pine Tree Mountain" and not "Pine Tree Hill"? - EstiRose 04:14, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I changed it. This translation is also found on the Matsuyama city official web site. --MattWright (talk) 18:13, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Matsuyama the next future designated city of Japan?[edit]

Some people are wondering that Matsuyama would be the next city to be upgraded to "designated city status", and if it becomes successful in the future it would be the first designated city in the Shikoku Region. The same "casuality" happened when Sendai became a designated city and the first one in the Tohoku Region. I hope that the city of Matsuyama might deserve that upgrade in the future after the cities of Okayama, Sagamihara, and now Kumamoto. jlog3000 (talk) 16:56, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Substitution of Matsuyama Castle air.jpg[edit]

Matsuyama Castle air
2007-07-01 Matsuyama Panorama.jpg

There are several problems with the proposed substitution of Matsuyama Panorama.jpg for the previous image 2007-07-01 Matsuyama Panorama.jpg. First, the aerial castle image shows only the area immediately surrounding the castle, giving the impression that Matsuyama is much smaller than it actually is. Second, the castle picture is dated 1974, and there has been a good deal of construction in the areas surrounding the castle; therefore the picture cannot be said to represent Matsuyama as it currently appears. Third, even if the first two objections did not apply, the panorama is simply a more attractive picture, giving a better sense of how Matsuyama looks, than the castle picture.

This is not to say that the aerial castle picture is unusable. In fact we liked the use of the picture on the page for Matsuyama Castle, where we simply added a date to the picture to indicate that it is not a current view. It seems to us that it could be used in the Matsuyama page if it appeared alongside information about specific geographical areas of the city. That information doesn't yet exist, but we hope it might be added in the future.--Local Culture and the Internet 2010 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Icuc2 (talkcontribs) 07:01, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

List of notable residents[edit]

Currently a mishmash of Western and Japanese name order. 213.249.135.36 (talk) 19:48, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done. It was easy to fix. --DAJF (talk) 23:05, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
