Angelo.Romano and Racism against Balotelli @ the Barca Match

Angelo, why did you delete the paragraph about Balotelli being targeted by racist abuse and being attacked in the underground garage? A written, reliable source was provided, yet you deleted it as non-verifiable?? Please explain. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.105.102.162 (talk) 09:41, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Not a single media in Italy has defined the boos as "racist", also because the player was booed only in the final minutes of the game, after he unsuccessfully tried a volley from 35-40 meter. He is not the first one to be booed at Inter, also Ricardo Quaresma had the same problem this season (just to mention one). All people at Inter, all journalists in Italy defined the boos as definitely not having racial connotations, and even Balotelli himself has never called them racist. I can't read German and anyway I wouldn't trust a source coming from the opinion of one journalist alone, which isn't obviously enough when it gets contradicted by one thousand more source and facts themselves. If you want sources anyway, here we are: [1] "...threw his shirt away at the final whistle after being jeered by Inter fans for his performance..." (SKY Sport), [2] "...volleyed wide in the dying minutes and received another round of jeers..." (ESPN), just to mention the first two I've found. Regards, --Angelo (talk) 10:39, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Ok fair enough on the racist chanting - but the news report also talked about the attempted attack underneath the stadium, and *that* is factual: http://english.gazzetta.it/Football/20-04-2010/booed-balotelli-throws-jerseyand-fans-try-to-attack-him-603718258988.shtml http://www.101greatgoals.com/zanetti-accuses-balotelli-of-ruining-inters-night-after-super-mario-stormed-off-the-pitch-video/53335/ http://www.dispatch.co.za/article.aspx?id=396413

So can we put that in then? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.69.36.247 (talk) 18:33, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Definitely, there's even a video detailing that so it's just facts. --Angelo (talk) 18:58, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Cool - thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.30.99.146 (talk) 08:50, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Name

The player is always been referred as Mario Balotelli, not Mario Barwuah. A Google search for "Mario Balotelli" returns over 15,000 results [3], whereas "Mario Barwuah" has only 9,000 results [4]. Per WP:COMMON, I am going to move this to Mario Balotelli, as he used to be referred as Balotelli. He calls himself as "Mario Balotelli" in his own website! [5]. And, as you can see from the photo [6], it is quite untrue he wears Barwuah on the back of his shirt. So, do not start an edit war regarding this, please. --Angelo 21:23, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

If he is most commonly known as Mario Balotelli, then that is what the article about him should be called. - PeeJay 21:39, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
As can be seen throughout the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football and the Renaming and deletion archives of the project, the most commonly used name is used. The person in question uses this name on his own page and Inter fans list him as Balotelli see[7]. The guidelines at WP:COMMON state that the most commonly used name should be used. As such it should be moved to Balotelli.
(For transparency: here after a request for comment on the WP:FOOTY page.) Woodym555 21:47, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
By his own website, he clearly calls himself Balotelli, and I presume Inter and the FIGC do too, so (on top of everything else) that should definitely stick. ArtVandelay13 21:51, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you all, now I know I am not the only one thinking Mario Balotelli is correct under WP:COMMON, so I can move it back. --Angelo 22:09, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Mario removed the "Barwuah" part of his last name when he got his Italian citizenship so can we remove that completely now? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.155.164.33 (talk) 19:36, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

MARIO IS BORN IN ITALY, NOT GHANA !!!! ALSO, HE REMOVED 'BURAWAH' WHEN HE GAINED HIS ITALIAN CITIZENSHIP. CAN YOU PLEASE FIX THESE ERRORS ???? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.242.25.171 (talk) 12:28, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

This sentence

"Despite been born in Italy and growing up there, Barwuah does not have Italian citizenship and is technically completely Ghanian."

Belongs in the intro, because it is 100% true and depicts fairly reality. Barwuah wanting to be an Italian and not mentioning the word "Ghana" on his website does not take away from what he is. His parents are both Ghanian and he has neither Italian citizenship nor does he have any Italian blood. If that is not completely Ghanian, then what is he? though as the sentence say, he is born in Italy and lives there, he certainly is not Italian by law yet is he. One day he might become an African Italians, but not today he is just Ghanian. - Ordinaria (talk) 00:52, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

The issue is already explained in detail in the article, if you look at it, and IMHO it cannot be simplified with a single short phrase due to the complexity of the issue itself. --Angelo (talk) 08:39, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Can i also add, it says place of birth: Ghana in his details. But then in 'early life' it says he was born in the Italian city of Palermo. He was either born in Italy or Ghana, not both. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.191.51.122 (talk) 03:48, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Can we add his nicknames "Super Mario" and "Turbo Mario" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 154.5.133.46 (talk) 06:56, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

commentators always refer to him as 'super' mario balotelli, go ahead and add the nicknames. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.49.153.9 (talk) 05:20, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Picture?

What happened to it? Anyway I was on Flickr and saw there are loads of free to use images for Balotelli there. Can anyone upload one? Spiderone (talk) 09:46, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Only a small part of Flickr pictures are actually released for free, the majority is copyrighted or released under incompatible Creative Commons licenses, and many of them are just being taken from somewhere else in the Internet and then uploaded to a Flickr account, which is obviously a violation of copyright licenses. See here for more details about Flickr image policy. --Angelo (talk) 12:08, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Is this one worth uploading? http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mario_Balotelli.jpg Spiderone (talk) 16:46, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
The problem with that picture is that the depicted subject does not really seem to be Balotelli, but Maicon instead... --Angelo (talk) 10:04, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Low importance

I believe this should be changed to mid-importance since he's played in Serie A. Spiderone (talk) 09:57, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

GA Review

Hi, there. I will be reviewing this article. Considering its length, I should be able to finish quite quickly. Rafablu88 (talk) 19:40, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

CONCLUSION

I'm afraid I'm going to quick-fail this article nomination on multiple counts.

  • The lead is too short and does not summarise the article.
  • Biography mostly lists the adoption court case and not his life up to starting at Lumezzane.
  • Too much focus on last two seasons, especially with details of goals scored.
  • No section on his contribution to Torneo Giacinto Facchetti and Torneo Viareggio
  • References include blogs like Soccerlens.

So: QUICK-FAIL

To make this a GA, my advice would to extend it and reword it and find more accurate sources. See Cesc Fabregas as a nice template to follow. (Also Tijani Babangida is another decent random example.) Good luck with it in the future. If you do nominate again, I'd be more than happy to review it for you, just drop me a line. I am interested on the subject and topic and would like to see it get to GA. Maybe ask for some help from the football portal people. Rafablu88 (talk) 20:09, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Italian

RACIST edit from user Dancarney.--82.55.209.248 (talk) 18:10, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

For crying out loud. The article Italian people is about people who are ethnically Italian. Balotelli is undoubtedly an Italian citizen, but he is not ethnically Italian. Dancarney (talk) 10:35, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
How about adding him to an Italian national or Italian citizen category then? Besides, I don't know if Italian ethnicity is decided solely on race, but on customs, culture, language, too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by BabyJonas (talkcontribs) 19:33, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
He is already in Category:Italian footballers. My judgment was made by reading the first sentence of Italian people - "The Italian people (Italian: italiani) are an ethnic group, in the sense of sharing a common Italian culture, descent, and speaking the Italian language as a mother tongue. " Balotelli does not fufil all of these criteria. Dancarney (talk) 23:10, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
No doubt it's a tough call. He can be an Italian footballer, but he can't be an Italian person. Do you think it's a good idea to replace "Italian people" with "Italian ethnicity", or something specific to ethnicity instead? BabyJonas (talk) 04:37, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
I think it is fine (and correct) to say that he is Italian, but that word should have a pipelink to Italy, not Italian people. Note that he is also included at Category:Italians of Ghanaian descent, which should show that he is an Italian, but not of Italian descent. Dancarney (talk) 12:07, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Hmmm, surely the Italian People article is about the Italian people? He is an Italian person. His ethnic background is not important. I am pretty sure that, as the Romans had many slaves and there were so many peoples incorporated into the Italy from 2000 BC to the present day, an Italian person is not "ethnically pure". The Italian people are a mix of backgrounds from all over the Mediterranean, Eurasia, well in fact from all over the then known world. It would be a mistake to start going down an "ethnic Italian" route. Chaosdruid (talk) 13:24, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
The Italian People article says "The Italian people (Italian: italiani) are a people that share a common Italian culture, ancestry and speak the Italian language as a mother tongue." Linking Balotelli to that article in its current state is not quite correct as he does not have Italian ancestry. It's a hellish problem of the names of ethnicities and nations overlapping, and perhaps the real problem is with the Italian People article anyway. Linking to Italy is uncontroversial, as he is definitely an Italian-born, Italian citizen. If we look at the Featured Article, Steve Bruce, it calls him English, with English linking to England, rather than English people. There are almost no 'pure' ethnicities anyway. Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 14:29, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
That is pure bs. There are loads of pure ethnicities. Finns, Japanese, Han Chinese, Scandinavians of Germanic descent all sorts of African and other indigenous tribes. There are loads of homogenous ethnic groups. Wis (talk) 14:40, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
Calling him Italian is very disrespectful to Italian people. He is not of the Italian ethnic group. Ethnicity is solely based on physical characteristics. Ethnic group is a sub unit of race. If he was born in Japan, spoke Japanese, had Japanese, practiced the culture and dress like the Japanese, he would still not be Japanese ethnically. This is the problem with confusing where a person lives with ethnic group. Unfortunately the name of a country often coincides with the ethnic group of the people who are naturally from there.
How can you say it is disrestpectful for Italians? People of an ethnic group are not solely determined by physical characteristics but rather by national heritage, culture and language or dialect. That's why German and Polish people or French and English people are different. Even if Balotelli was not ethnic Italian he could be an Italian person. Canadians and French people are of very different physical characteristics and ethnicity, still they are all Canadian and French people. Balotelli was born in Italy, he has Italian nationality, he speak Italian of Brescian dialect as a mother language, and was raised by Italian parents from the age of 3 and considers her adoptive parents as his true parents and himself Italian. 78.131.101.229 (talk) 23:33, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

He is NOT an italian. He is born in Ghana and he was sent to italian foster care because of his criminal record in Ghana.

Birth place

How can the main body of the article say he's a Ghana born Italian footballer, but the info box say he was born in Palermo, Italy. One part is wrong. 90.217.59.225 (talk) 06:17, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

He was born in Italy. The part that says he is "Ghana born" is wrong. I'm going to change it. Sky Blu 2 (talk) 15:29, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
It was changed yesterday by User:Snowbound with no summary at all: [8]. He is definitely not a Ghana-born Italian, as he was born in Sicily. --Angelo (talk) 15:35, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Mario Balotlli's Italian adoptive mother's name is Silvia not Silvio. Silvio is a male name and the Daily Mail article you quote just got it and spelled it wrong.

Mrs. Balotelli's name is Silvia. Italy does not have same-sex marriage, and definitely does not have same-sex adoption.

GET IT RIGHT PEOPLE, it does not take a genius to figure that out.

Please read this article with an interview to Ms. SILVIA Balotelli. Then please just use your brain, Italy's Prime Minister's name is Silvio Berlusconi and he's a man, do you really think Mrs. Balotelli has a man's name? Her name is Silvia.

Appearances for Manchester City

Balotelli made his debut against FC Timişoara in the play-off round of the Europa League, this was a competitive fixture, one in which he scored. I've added this profile but the goal and appearance have been, and continues to be removed?

Why?

This was a competitive UEFA licensed fixture and should stand as a legitimate appearance for his club. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mellerz252 (talkcontribs) 05:58, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Copy edit March 2011

Hi

During the course of the copyedit some points came to light that may need attention:

Early life
  • "They lived in Concesio, a town and comune in Brescia." - Who did? what relevance has this sentence to the surrounding ones? (Is this mentioned because law 91 is a local law?)
Internazionale
  • "in a 3–2 away win for the Nerazzurri." - What is the Nerazzurri? It does not appear to be italicised per MoS as it seems to simply be a name for the team. It would be italicised as a deifinition if it was "...the Nerazzurri ("The English definition)."
  • "to win the 2007–08 scudetto" - what is the scudetto?.
  • "The young striker again incurred the wrath of Juve fans" - I have added (Juventus)

NOTE - In many places this article assumes that people will be familiar with terms used. It would be better to explain them at least once in the article.

comedy antics

I'm not an expert on Balotelli's antics but I feel his article ought to have a list of some of the high jinks he gets up to off the pitch as they mark him out specially. For example: exiting a casino and giving £10,000 to a homeless man, meeting a kid who was bunking off school because of bullying; marching him down to the school with his mum, demanding to see the head teacher and have the bullying stopped, being stopped for driving with boxing gloves on, being stopped by the police and having thousands of pounds of cash in his flash car - when asked why, replying, 'because I'm rich', his fantastic total of parking tickets (averaging three per day since his arrival in Manchester). Surely there's a Balotelli-watcher somewhere out there who wants to write this up and find refs?!

Trial with FC Barcelona wasn't unsuccesful

Balotelli's trial with Barcelona wasn't unsuccesful as stated in the article. Balotelli scored eight goals in three games with Barça and the club wanted to hire him, but his agent wanted too much money. Off field activities

Would anyone object to my adding a section on Balotelli's off field antics? Serious reputable sources have written about subjects such as his handing bundles of cash out to homeless people, his walking truant children back to their schools and the fact that he recently set fire to his house by letting off fireworks in the bathroom (not a euphemism). He's at least as well known for his failure to put on a bib during training as he is for his ability to play Football. I'm not going to add it if there's going to end up being an edit war, though...212.124.225.66 (talk) 16:39, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

First black player of Italian national team?

the first black player for the Italian national team was Fabio Liverani (Somali mother) in 2001. Matteo Ferrari (Guinean mother) was the second. Balotelli is probably the first son of immigrants to play in the national team, though I need more research on this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.97.112.79 (talk) 12:02, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

isn't it Matteo Ferrari? his mother is black, and he has black features.. so just because his skin isnt as dark as Balotelli's, doesn't he count as black? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.238.166.160 (talk) 10:19, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

and most importantly, Argentinian-born Miguel Angel Montuori, who even played once as captain for the Italian National Team (and his debut dates back to 1956) is considered by some to have been a mulatto or mestizo, but there are contradicting articles about this. personally I wouldnt care about the issue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.159.104.40 (talk) 02:28, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Balotelli is certainly not the first black player to play for Italy, but is the first one to score for Italy (other than Miguel Montuori, whose background is disputed). Also, he is the first black to represent Italy in a major tournament (UEFA Euro or FIFA World Cup). Also, many reputable news sources, including Sports Illustrated and Winnipeg Free Press, make these claims. Dar5995 (talk) 23:33, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Striscia la Notizia

To me this sentence: "His problems deepened in March 2010 when he came under heavy criticism by Inter fans after he appeared on the Italian TV show Striscia la notizia, wearing an A.C. Milan jersey" sounds absolutely subjective. I would remove it. Who can exclude that the inter Fans started showing criticism when he threw the Inter's t-shirt after being replaced during the match against Barcelona at San Siro???? I would remove it, or at least add this episode together with your sentence or add references. Vito — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.15.18.31 (talk) 00:27, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Foreign language news sources?

While sources in a foreign language are not necessarily better or worse than those in English in terms of reputability, how are they appropriate for an English language article? I understand that this is about an Italian player, but most readers of the English Wikipedia will not have fluency in Italian nor be able to get anything out of the Italian language sources. Therefore, I propose that all of the Italian language sources be replaced by comparable English language ones (especially news sources). I am not going to remove any sources until some sort of consensus is reached; I will only add the English language ones. Dar5995 (talk) 06:44, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

I appreciate your post is over four years old and never got a response, but surely the thing about Wiki, is that it should be universal so that English and non-English readers are reading the same thing? Surely the answer is that Italian and English editors should collaborate so that the Italian and English wikis have the same content? Having spent most of his life in Italy, does it make sense to exclude these sources merely because English readers may not be able to understand them?46.7.85.68 (talk) 11:51, 24 July 2016 (UTC)

Nationality

I am a little confused about his nationality.

If he was born in Italy does that not make him Italian? If he had to apply for citizenship then surely he was not Italian when he was born? (and not until he was 18 according to the article) It needs some clarification. Chaosdruid (talk) 01:27, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

The available info on Balotelli's foster family indicates that only the foster mother is Jewish, not he family as a whole. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.253.136.23 (talk) 16:55, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Personality and reputation

I would like to propose the following addition. Balotelli's affairs in 2 short sentences. See, for example, Diego Maradona#Personal life, Tiger Woods#Personal life, Wayne Rooney#Personal life, or Cristiano Ronaldo#Personal life. Tobby72 (talk) 11:14, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

It looks like tabloid gossip which isn't surprising as it's supported by unreliable low-quality tabloid sources. Take a look at WP:BLPSOURCES. Barret (talk) 12:01, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Barret, exactly what you have just said to Tobby72, is exactly what I have said to Tobby72. I explained that this Mario Balotelli Wikipedia article is a "Good article" and should try and not contain unrelated profession and speculative information and per WP:BLPSOURCES. As Tobby72, has used the reason that Mario Balotelli is a public figure.
Mario Balotelli is a young 21 year old football player, with a bright football career ahead of him, as he is a very good football player, that is the reason why there is a Mario Balotelli Wikipedia "Good article" for the world to view. The "Mario Balotelli article" was not created and promoted to a "Good article" because Mario Balotelli had a couple of "un-serious relationships" with "un-popular attention seeking females", and may of- and may- not of "impregnated a female". This Mario Balotelli "Good article" should not be used as a publicity place for less "unknown peoples". MarkMysoe (talk) 12:31, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Reliable sources: [11], [12]. Tobby72 (talk) 14:24, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
If Mario Balotelli has "impregnated a female" let the Baby be born first, then that would be a reliable source and not a speculation by news agencies. That is how news agencies make their profit by selling rumors. So let the Baby that may of- and may- not be Mario Balotelli's Baby. Let the Baby be born and the "Whole World" would see and know if it is really Mario Balotelli's Baby and per WP:BLPSOURCES. MarkMysoe (talk) 17:46, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Take a look at WP:VERIFY: Verifiability, and not truth, is one of the fundamental requirements for inclusion in Wikipedia. I just don't like it is not an argument to use in talk page discussions. If an allegation or incident is noteworthy, relevant, and well-documented, it belongs in the article per WP:WELLKNOWN — even if it is negative and the subject dislikes all mention of it. Tobby72 (talk) 13:54, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
I am reporting you Tobby72 with your bigotry edits on this Mario Balotelli Wikipedia article "Good article". I have been watching your edits to this "Good article" and I have now seen that your mission is to damage Mario Balotelli, as you are working for a "News agency". You are deliberately damaging (vandalism) this Mario Balotelli Wikipedia article with you negativity edits. Nobody in the history of the Mario Balotelli Wikipedia article has inserted the unanimously "un-football related" information on this "Good article" only for your to come and spoil it with you evilness like edits. You may be working for a "News agency" but this is not the place to put - publish your news, do it on your companie's news channel or news paper. The fact that you added your bigotry and bad faith edits to this football player named Mario Balotelli Wikipedia article and removed the following neutral information on Mario Balotelli:
In the same month, it was reported that Balotelli visited his local church where he donated £200 and then visited a pub in Chorlton-cum-Hardy where he bought a £1000 round.Littlejohn, Georgina (28 December 2011). "Manchester City's Mario Balotelli donates £200 to his local church... before getting a £1,000 round in down the pub". Daily Mail. London. Retrieved 2011-12-29.
It looks like tabloid gossip which isn't surprising as it's supported by unreliable low-quality tabloid Daily Mail. Take a look at WP:BLPSOURCES. Tobby72 (talk) 15:11, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Then you Toby72, added the following "un-football related", "serious allegations", "negative", "football career damaging" and "un-neutral" tabloid news agency information:
  • Rumors have surfaced that Balotelli was having multiple affairs however there has been no confirmation.
  • He was once described by Jose Mourinho as "unmanageable." In June 2010, Balotelli and a group of friends fired air pistols in the open in Milan’s Piazza della Repubblica.
  • In 2010, he was photographed in the company of two noted Mafia mobsters.
These news agency published information have absolutely nothing to do with a person such as Mario Balotelli who is known for his superior football abilities rather than "un-football related" news agency published information and speculations such as above. That is why there is a Wikipedia article about Mario Balotelli, because he is a footballer and a good footballer. The Wikipedia article Mario Balotelli was not created because of the news agency published information and speculations such as above that you have deliberately added with bad motive. I am reporting you now, it is now enough. MarkMysoe (talk) 14:02, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

I would like to propose the following additions per WP:WELLKNOWN. The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, the San Francisco Chronicle, and BBC are considered reliable sources. Tobby72 (talk) 15:11, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Markmysoe have requested a second opinion on this case at WT:FOOTBALL, and there is nothing wrong with adding info about a footballers personal life. Balotelli have been involved in a lot of episodes outside the pitch, and his article should reflect that. From my point of view Tobby72's additions could be defended given that the sources actually says what's written (I have read through the added sources), except the rumours about his affair, which don't belong in a Wiki-article. But I don't understand why you removed some information in the same edit, but again - I haven't read through the sources. Mentoz86 (talk) 09:28, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
I disagree with MarkMysoe that Balotelli's article should only reflect his footballing career. I agree with Mentoz, if Balotelli has been involved in news-worthy episodes reported by reliable sources then why shouldn't it be included in the article? It's not vandalism to add un-football related or negative stuff about Balotelli reported by reliable sources. It's just reporting facts that happened. For example, Tobby added some info which the BBC reported: "Balotelli was photographed in the company of a couple of known Camorra gangsters as he toured one of the most deprived, violent and crime-ridden parts of Naples." I do not see why this was removed. Starship.paint (talk) 09:36, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

This tabloid fodder should not be in the article unless it is in some way relevant to his primary notability as a football player. James Morrison (talk) 11:08, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Ghanaian

Dear user:Markmysoe of Ghana, it is okay to state that Balotelli is of Ghanaian descent, and link the Ghanaian people to the article, but it is not a so important fact to include it in the introduction. Balotelli has no connection to Ghana, other than his biological parents who left him at the age of 3. Balotelli was born in Italy, is an Italian citizen, speaks Italian as a mother tongue, considers himself Italian and his adopted Italian parents as true. He has never been to Ghana, refused to go back to his biological parents when was asked to, and declined the offer of the Ghanaian International Football Team to play for Ghana in preference for Italy. FonsScientiae (talk) 21:57, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

  • Fonscientist, are Wikipedia article should lead section should point out information that makes a article worth reading and in the Mario Balotelli article's situation, it includes that Mario Balotelli is of Ghanaian descent, and as you have already mentioned that Mario Balotelli's biological parents are both Ghaaian and African, his surname was and still is "Barwuah" which is a surname from the Akan people a Ghanaian ethnic group that Mario Balotelli is from and as Mario Balotelli was offered the chance to play football for the Ghana national football team per (Wikipedia:Lead). As to say Mario Balotelli has nothing to do with Ghana and has never been to Ghana is plain bigotry and misinformation on you behalf. Unless you a racist or have a problem with Mario Balotelli or infact anyone being of Ghanaian descent then you should state it and make it known, otherwise you would not have a problem with a paragraph indicating that Mario Balotelli is of Ghanaian descent. Whether Mario Balotelli has never considered himself Ghanaian or not is not a case, as he was born to Ghanaian parents and his physical appearances and features are that of a Ghanaian and Black African (i.e Black people and African people), which Mario Balotelli cannot change if he wanted to. By removing the paragraph where it states that Mario Balotelli is of Ghanaian descent does not hide the fact the Mario Balotelli has clear African features which personally the whole World can see. This discussion of whether a paragraph acknowledging that Mario Balotelli is of Ghanaian descent should or not be inserted into the sub-section of the lead section was discussed on WikiProject Football on 20 June 2012, and a consensus was made on 20 June 2012 (see Here). The result of the consensus was to include into the sub-section of the article's lead - a paragraph of Mario Balotelli being of Ghanaian descent per Wikipedia:Lead. The paragraph was then inserted on 20 June 2012 by WikiProject Football member User:Cloudz679 (see Here) following the decision and close of the consensus on 20 June 2012 (see Here). MarkMysoe (talk) 14:32, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
"Lead section should point out information that makes a article worth reading" so is including in the lead section that his parents are Ghanaian makes the article worth reading? "Mario Balotelli has nothing to do with Ghana and has never been to Ghana is plain bigotry and misinformation on you behalf" I did say Mario has no connection to Ghana other than his biological parents, and that Mario has never been to Ghana is a fact.
Lead section should only contain information that is relevant to that person's inclusion in Wikipedia and is notable. General practice is that we not include ethnicity or sexuality in the Lead section Wikipedia:OPENPARA. I have never said that we should not include that he is of Ghanaian descent, I only said that its place is not in the lead section as it immediately mentioned in the following paragraph.
I am explicitly not racist and against any form of racism; and Mario Balotelli is one of my favorite players to counter your objections. Actually, you are the one who use racism to support your claims of notability. "His physical appearances and features are that of (...) Black African (...)" This is racism from your part. Significant number of black people like Mario live in the Americas, Australia, UK, France, or even Italy so based only on his skin color he could be from any of these countries. "clear African features which personally the whole World can see" There are no such things as 'African features'; people from Morocco to South Africa has all kinds of different physical characteristics. "physical appearances are that of a Ghanaian (...) which Mario Balotelli cannot change if he wanted to" This is again racist. Based on his looks he could be from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Congo or even Brazil. William Boyd, John Collins, Kim Grant and Juliet Ibrahim are all Ghanaian people and look nothing like Mario.
"By removing the paragraph where it states that Mario Balotelli is of Ghanaian descent ..." What are you talking about? I did not remove any paragraph, I removed 5 words from the lead section. He is of Ghanaian descent, it's important, and it's still in the paragraph following.
If you look at the featured article of Thierry Henry, you can see that his Antillean descent is mentioned in the first section, but not in the lead. FonsScientiae (talk) 11:41, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
As it states in WP:OPENPARA "Ethnicity or sexuality should not generally be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, previous nationalities or the country of birth should not be mentioned in the opening sentence unless they are relevant to the subject's notability." Mario Balotelli is notable as a footballer, and part of that notability is that he is a player for the Italian national team. He was born in Italy, has Italian citizenship, and considers himself to be Italian. As such, he ethnic background should not be mentioned in the lead, but it should be included in the main body of text. This is different from someone like Mauro Camoranesi who is notable as an Italian footballer, despite not being born or raised in Italy. Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk)
But we aren't talking about the opening paragraph, we are talking about the lead and "The lead should define the topic and summarize the body of the article with appropriate weight." That his biologic parents are ghanaian, should be mentioned in the lead, but not in the opening paragraph. Mentoz86 (talk) 02:07, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Opening paragraph and lede are the same. FonsScientiae (talk) 11:06, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but you are mistaken. Since you have misunderstood this, I'll readd Ghanaian into the lead. (but not the opening paragraph) Mentoz86 (talk) 11:34, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

I noticed one of the quotes from Mancini had several differences from the source. Nothing serious, but in the interests of precision I have here replaced it with the exact quote from the Guardian source, and re-added the clarification "[he]". in the section titled 'Milan' the article states:

"On 3 February 2013, Balotelli made his debut for Milan and scored two goals, including a last minute penalty to earn a 2-1 victory over Udinese. The win lifted Milan to fourth in the table, ahead of Internazionale on goal difference.[89] In the next two matches, Balotelli scored two goals, including 30 yards free-kick against Udinese."

The freekick mentioned at the end was scored against Parma, NOT Udinese, who he played against just two weeks before.

Buddhism

Religions of living people must be well-sourced. The source for Balotelli's Buddhism is from the Daily Star, which is not a reliable source, and a google search of "Balotelli Buddhism" comes up with only the Star and the Daily Mirror, which is only slightly more reliable. Then after that it's results about him meeting his girlfriend at the "Sugar Buddha" club. Balotelli Youth Club error

The text rightly says that Balotelli debuted at Lumezzane on 2 April 2006 making it the 2005-2006 season, however the Personal information box says that he played in Lumezzane's Senior Team in the 2006–2007 season which is INCORRECT. He spent the 2006-2007 in Inter's Youth team [1]. He spent also part of the 2007-2008 in Inter's Youth Team [2] but during that year he became a regular first team player and only went back to the youth team once the senior league had ended. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.133.28.176 (talk) 20:43, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Racism!

I cannot see any mention of Paolo Berlusconi, the brother of the then Italian PM, and his comment "We are off to see the family nigger". The infobox makes it seem as if Balotelli has been a player in the national squad since 2010. That's not the case, he was not called to the national team for any game in 2015 or in 2016, so 2014 was the last time he played. I put this into the infobox, the information was removed by a user claiming he could get a call up whenever a manager feels. True enough, but that is true of any footballer. There are lots of active footballers who have played in a national squad, been dropped and whose infoboxes make this clear. I'd like to remind Vaselineeee that this is an encyclopaedia and not Balotelli's promotional page. He played for Italy 2010-2014. If he ever plays for Italy again, we will of course change the infobox, but making it seem as if he's been a player on the national squad since 2010 is plainly wrong and I can see no reason to deliberately mislead readers. There are plenty of sources that say that Ventura will consider calling him up, the best and most recent one in English: [15]. Also it's not misleading to say 2010- as he could get called up at any time. If he doesn't in his career and it's 2020, then we will take it from when he last played in 2014, but that doesn't mean we change it now. For example, Roberto Baggio didn't play from 2000-2003 in the national team, but made an appearance in 2004 and so his infobox says 1988-2004 even though he didn't play for 3 years. We should not change Balo's infobox prematurely, as if we do, it will mislead readers in another way in that thinking he won't have a chance to be called up. I'm sorry but that makes no sense and seems to violate WP:CRYSTAL. Yes, we agree he may be called up. I also said that if he is called up, we should change the infobox to reflect that. In the meantime, the infobox should reflect the actual situation, not any hypothetical future situation. As of what we know today, his career in the national team was 2010-2014 and I see no reason the infobox should pretend something else. Jeppiz (talk) 14:42, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
How does it not make sense? It goes for any national team player. Should we put xxxx-2015 for Sebastian Giovinco and Andrea Pirlo just because they play in MLS? Even though it may seem unlikely they will play again for the national team (maybe more so Pirlo), why should we close of the date range if they haven't given an official retirement statement from the team? It was the same with Alessandro Del Piero. He never gave an official statement of his retirement from the national team, so the date range stayed open until he ceased football and closed it off when he last played in 2008. I feel unless they have announced their retirement from the team, the date range should stay open. Even recently with Andrea Barzagli, he announced his retirement, but is being convinced by Ventura to come back, so there is an issue with his infobox date range. Again, the same with Roberto Baggio when he made an appearance after a three year absence. Should we put xxxx-2016 for Florenzi or anyone who played at the Euro? How do we know they will be called again?? Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 15:23, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
