accents[edit]

Interesting, and about time!

The accents appear to be backwards. In standard Spanish orthography, "Chávez" has an accent but "Chaves" and "Mariano" don't. As far as I can tell, the rules date to 1763. Such details may have been shaky in New Mexico in the 19th century (and the 20th and 21st, but don't tell anyone I said that), but I think we should go with the standard. —JerryFriedman (Talk) 20:02, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • I did not know that. Just saw accents in some sources, not others, and assumed that where they were missing it was because the author or printer did not like them. I have moved the article and fixed (I think) to the correct accents. Aymatth2 (talk) 20:28, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
