Compass points do not have periods, as, for example neither does NATO or the element Al. [Chicago Style, Wikipedia Boxing the compass and Cardinal direction ]. Ordinal points are single words. The official designations on maps and on actual official street signs use the standard convention. The official designations in USPS addresses use the standard convention. Another way to think of this may be to consider the compass points as symbols ilke those of the Periodic Table.
Repetition after introduction is redundant and reduces smooth readability. People don't much use the compass designations within a neighborhhod, unless disambiguation is needed. A Street layout of Seattle descriptive sentence link provides any further elaboration desired.

Numbers less than one hundred are generally written in words (incidentally distinguishing them from numbered items or maths at a glance). Particularly with few syllables, this makes for smoother reading.

Accuracy[edit]

Adjacent Lake City and mention of Northgate are more accurately informal quarters, districts, or boroughs, since they are each sets of neighborhoods. Of course, designations and boundaries are per sources.

"[M]ostly residing in 'classic Seattle boxes' (a pejorative now wryly belied today by their quality and prices), known locally as Seattle bungalows and Tudoresque-type houses", including the parenthetical, describes a documented, defining characteristic of this neighborhood, originally a suburb. As such, a suburban house as a "box" has particular meaning in residential architecture and in American folklore. Ask any good remodeler about the relative qualities of woods used for construction in various decades. Cf. Levittown and Daley City. Seattle has relatively quite high housing prices, particularly urban Seattle, and NE Seattle among the relatively high prices within the city [national costs of living, real estate stats].

Would "Tudor style" be more accurate? --as indeed they are, else if a clear distinction exists, reference? None found at http://www.ci.seattle.wa.us/COMMNTY/MapleLeaf/history.htm. Newspapers and government use "Tudoresque style".

"Notable neighborhood meeting spots on Roosevelt include": In what ways are these notable? On what basis are these included? Which busineses, houses, institutions are relatively unique, or otherwise characteristic of the neighborhood? (Some suggested possibilities, in alphabetical order:) The Ace store has long been family-owned, and Ace is a co-op of stores nationwide rather than an anonymous corporate big box. Stephenson Ace has been aggressively competitive with the big stores, surviving as several peers in North Seattle have succumbed. Cabinetworks is long-established and one of the last woodworking manufacturers in a country where almost all those jobs have been moved overseas. KRAB-FM "the end of the dial" alternative radio was in Maple Leaf, back in the heyday of diversity before national media consolidation. The station facility remains. The house-turned-restaurant now known as the Maple Leaf Grill has a storied history. (One of the more ostentatious annual Christmas lights displays is on the east side of the reservoir : )`

What is the purpose served with, "[b]oth of these are enclosed by barbed-wire fences"? Is it sufficiently accurate and notable?
"Barbed-wire fences remain the standard fencing technology for enclosing cattle in most regions of the US," (barbed wire article). That is the generic image of "barbed-wire fences". Consequently, in the absence of an image, the sentence is rather less illustrative. The actual fence is predominantly chain-link, and as such is little remarkable since most all uncovered reservoirs around have such. Ordinarily, that the fence would be notable at all would be only in its absence or if it were unusual. Accuracy is a goal.)

"Across Roosevelt Way from the water tower and reservoir is Saint Catherine's School and Church." Is there also nearby the notable feature of The Fairview Church and The Fairview School, one of the largest private primary schools in the city? Would it be sufficiently notable that these schools together (and Blanchet not far) attract families with young children to Maple Leaf and nearby neighborhoods, more than other area neighborhoods? That would make Maple Leaf relatively distinctive among urban neighborhoods in general nationally an well as in Seattle. The north county offices of Camp Fire Boys and Girls are in the old Waldo Hospital, itself a distinctive architecture and green space. Suggestion: Include aspects that illustrate character or uniqueness about the article topic.

Note re. Street layout of Seattle provides references for accuracy. Redundancy may be reduced.

"Bulldozed" or torn down? Razed? Most residences torn down in Seattle are done with tracked loaders or shovels. 'Dozers can't load, and an additional loader is more expense than a single heavy equipment. --GoDot 04:51, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Northgate[edit]

I don't think anyone considers Northgate Mall to be part of Maple Leaf today. Surely the northern boundary of Maple Leaf is south of Northgate now? --Lukobe 05:18, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

November 2015 Editing[edit]

I have taken it upon myself to update this neighborhood page. I grew up in Maple Leaf and would like to see it's wikipedia page improved upon. Upgrades will include better referencing and citations and a clearer layout of the page. This will be an ongoing project for me. I hope by the the new year I will have turned this page into the jewel of Seattle neighborhood wikipedia pages. (Chilcokr (talk) 17:24, 11 November 2015 (UTC))[reply]
