I can't find any justification for this disambiguation page being split into separate articles for people and places. A single disambig page serves the reader better. dramatic (talk) 06:01, 30 April 2008 (

Forgive my error in starting the list page. I'm obviously groping here. Are lists and disambiguation pages the same thing? If so, the merge seems appropriate. Most of the disambiguation pages I've encountered are brief, concise "crossroads". The lists are comparatively long "stops". I did not realize I was starting a disambiguation page - ha!
The original Mallory summary reads as if its subject is limited to the surname. While the list is obviously related to the surname, my goal was to organize/categorize the data in a simple list form. Because it will have hundreds of entries, I'm still tweaking its format. At the moment, it's a bit of a mess. It is getting closer to my intent with every edit.
Any help will be appreciated. Vioarc (talk) 06:50, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Let me say that I'm no expert on disambiguation pages, but my personal thought is that if someone types in "Mallory" there are equal chances of them looking for a place or a person so all possibilities should be linked without need for further links. Or if that makes for too big a disambig page then I'd suggest a second "List" of people with only the two subpages given on the disambig page. I'll mention this discussion to the experts over at the disambiguation wikiproject. dramatic (talk) 10:27, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My suggestion:
  1. Remove the disambiguation tag from this page. It is a surname and given name list within Wikipedia:WikiProject Anthroponymy, not a disambiguation page. {{surname}} and/or {{given name}} can be used instead.
  2. Leave the List of places named Mallory where it is. It is a set index article, not a disambiguation page. It includes information on things that don't have Wikipedia articles, which is fine for a set index article.
  3. If desired, create Mallory (disambiguation). It can include things that are called just Mallory and have a Wikipedia article:
for example, and possibly the "fictional characters" entries from this page could be duplicated there.
    1. If the dab is created, add {{otheruses}} to this page.

Thank you -- this is the encouragement I needed. I may be able to do this, but may call for help. Vioarc (talk) 22:30, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I've created the disambiguation page and added hatnotes and hereby withdraw the merge proposal, creating general happiness and warm fuzzy feeling all round. dramatic (talk) 23:46, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I did poke my head in and make some stylistic edits to the dab page. -- JHunterJ (talk) 16:20, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

add to fictional names?[edit]
