Number format[edit]

@Yoninah: Thanks for your edit. As this is a page about a South African I should've put the appropriate flags at the top, i.e. "Uses South African English", etc. One idiosyncrasy of South Africa is that we use the comma in numbers as you would use the point. So for you 2,700 is two thousand seven hundred (i.e almost 3000) but for us it is two point seven zero zero (i.e less than 3). To avoid this confusion for South African readers I use the non-breaking space instead. In most cases the context would clear up any confusion (2700 species, not 2,7 species). I haven't found any guidance on this issue anywhere on WP.... Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 05:01, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Overlinking[edit]

@Animalparty: Thanks for your edit. From WP:Overlinking:

"However, try to be conscious of your own demographic biases – what is well known in your age group, line of work, or country may be less known in others"

One question regarding overlinking: I assume you know all of the countries that I listed in this page. Perhaps the person who read this page might not be as well informed as what you are. I thought that overlinking applied to linking the same links several times in the same page (like linking every instance of the word "collection"), or am I oversimplifying? What might seem to be trivial links to you might actually be new information to other people. The person who reads this page might not know where Costa Rica is, or even that it exists.

Granted, these links don't provide greater understanding of THIS PARTICULAR topic, but might provide new information to the person reading the page. Just a thought...Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 05:01, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

External links[edit]

@Animalparty: Thanks for your edit. From WP:EL Should not be linked: Websites of organizations mentioned in an article—unless they otherwise qualify as something that should be linked or considered. (emphasis mine)

The organisation linked doesn't have a WP page but should be considered, hence I have included the links in external links. Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 05:01, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's overkill. The links provide little to no relevance to Meyer herself, and it's not the point of a Wikipedia article to be a showcase of every company a person worked for. One of the links is already used as an inline citation (see WP:ELDUP), and the other two don't really meet linked or considered criteria (note these terms relate to External linking conventions, not whether you or I think they should be "considered"). --Animalparty! How about we compromise? I promise to remove these external links once I've written an acceptable page for the Agricultural Research Council, Pretoria. :) Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 06:56, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
