Play By Play[edit]

Play-by-play and color commentary will be provided by Tom Hammond and Cris Collinsworth, respectively, replacing Al Michaels and John Madden. But the play by play hasn't had Al Michaels or John Madden since the 2005 version; it has had a radio announcer for Madden06, Madden07 and Madden08. This is incorrect. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.176.124.17 (talk) 19:07, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to ESPN, Madden NFL 09 will also feature a network-inspired broadcast presentation. Players will benefit from the authentic football knowledge of an in-booth play-by-play and color commentary team featuring Cris Collinsworth and Tom Hammond. In addition, numerous graphical enhancements have been made, including realistic weather and grass, sleeker player models and exterior stadium views.--  StarScream1007  ►Talk  19:27, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Madden and Michaels were in the PS2 version still. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.215.217.141 (talk) 20:38, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cover Athlete[edit]

I don't know where somebody got those names but I highly doubt Ryan Grant, Ahmad Bradshaw, David Tyree, or the retired Brett Favre would be on the cover.....come on get real. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.246.45.5 (talk) 04:44, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop speculating on who is the 2009 Cover boy. We will add who it is when it is announced and official. Rdogg1234 (talk) 08:11, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The cover is now up on several sources, and it is indeed Brett Favre. (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6189866.html) —Preceding unsigned comment added by NotManos (talkcontribs) 04:22, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Last I was told, Gamespot is not a reliable source. Killswitch Engage (talk) 19:03, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is this the first year a retired player is the cover? Shake 3000 (talk) 19:56, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He isn't retired —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.162.156.159 (talk) 17:58, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

...Nor does he play for the Packers hahaha 216.223.155.40 (talk) 15:16, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To the IP, Favre was still officially retired when all those comments were made. TJ Spyke 17:15, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No Xbox version?[edit]

As I understand, there will be no Xbox version of Madden, as it is not mentioned in the platform list. Is this correct? If so, should it not be mentioned in the article? --CanesOL79 (talk) 18:49, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This link suggests otherwise. Best, --Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 04:15, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The official site now lists a link to buy the Xbox version for $39.99. Perhaps there will be an Xbox version after all?--Allemannster (talk) 04:48, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I got confirmation from EA that there will be an Xbox version. There is also a producer blog about the Xbox/PS2 version on the EA Sports site. 147.155.182.24 (talk) 02:21, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think Eli manning should be the cover man for 09Judgement Day (talk) 20:09, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fernando Montano[edit]

I'm going to delete: "so make shure you get him on your roster". There's no need for it to be there. If anyone wants to add it back go ahead but say in the talk page why you added it please. Wikifan4 (talk) 02:13, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Wikifan4[reply]

Equipment[edit]

Where is it stated that clear visors will be in the game? I can't seem to find the information (>_<). Also, will other colors be available? Whatabout other types of helments or facemasks, mouthpieces, nose pieces, eye-black, is any of that stated in the article about clear visors? Ticallion (talk) 18:47, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is. =P ZappaOMati 16:13, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Europe[edit]

Can anybody source the Europe release date for this game, head coach 09 and the collector's edition. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.106.12.167 (talk) 15:53, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Europe release date is 15 August according to Amazon.co.uk and Play.com. this is for "Madden 09". As of today there has been no annoucement of a European Head Coach 09 or Collectors edition similar to that on offer in the states. If anyone has any info to the contrary i'd LOVE to know about it as i'm currently planning to import the collectors edition - i want Head Coach! Metallicadam (talk) 13:24, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

worth mentioning in article[edit]

i put this in the article once, that the site Football-Freaks.com is creating a mod of NFL 08 that is going to be freely released as Madden 09 for the PC (Since Ea dumped PC players on their butts) it was removed saying "non-notable info from non-notable website"

Non notable website?

obviously this person didn't check up about Football-Freaks.

It has over 16319 members, 195331 posts, and 22025 topics. I beleive it is the largest Football fan site out there. This site gets hundreds of dollars in donations from members each month.

I say it's notable enough. should it be included in the article? - -[The Spooky One] | [t c r] 01:38, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:EL, unless its something official, from EA for a first party company, it's not worth mentioning. Furthermore, notability is not defined by member base, content, or worth; see WP:N - there should be another section for external links. --  ShadowJester07  ►Talk  02:11, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think if the project eventually got completed and big enough, it would be notable. I know the MVP Baseball series article has mentioned the gigantic mods that have been made to the game to update it.►Chris NelsonHolla! 02:59, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If MVP baseball has mentioned of mods in the article, then this should be in there, this isn't just Modding the next version of the game for PC like it is in MVP baseball, this IS the next version of the game for PC. - -[The Spooky One] | [t c r] 02:14, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
None of those are really valid reasons to add the mod to this article; Quake, Counterstrike, and Half-life have hundreds of mods/patches available, yet their articles do not reference even one specifically. Unless the mod was developed by EA, or gained some mainstream attention, like hot coffee. If you really feel the mod should be added, please consult the computer and video game project. --  ShadowJester07  ►Talk  02:44, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Curse[edit]

You think is time to put down the Favre-Packers situation as the effect of the Madden Curse? Zidane tribal (talk) 18:30, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anything about the curse that meets WP's guidelines should be mentioned here. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  18:44, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's kind of funny. Brady should have been THE player on the cover and he didn't even finish the first game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.17.102.129 (talk) 19:55, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I've added the advert tag to this article because the features section reads like something taken from an EA press release. This section needs to be completely re-done in order for the article to be more encyclopedic. RyguyMN (talk) 06:48, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

i think it looks professional, nice-looking, and explains each feature with depth and good perception. Ba11innnn (talk) 17:19, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree it's nice looking, but that doesn't neccessarily mean that its encyclopedic. This article sounds like product promotion. See: [1]. This tone of this article needs to be cleaned up. RyguyMN (talk) 02:54, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

and how about explaining the different features listed because i know they prob wont be included in the ps2 version so you might wanna change that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.140.57.64 (talk) 06:26, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't like the tone of this article, I have been trying to clean it up some on my own time, its seems like its promoting the game too much, I mean just put features and secondary features together and put them into paragraphs or something. It looks too much like an ad, Can we change it Pleeeease? Just my opinion 19:40, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Evan

Neutrality[edit]

Parts of the article seem more like advertisements or were copied off of descriptions from the say the games website or a magazine. This is rampant in the Gameplay Section where the descriptions are one sided and have no criticisms or problems mentioned. Does anybody know what to do about this seeing as I have not bought the game.

Delta27 (talk) 17:22, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I definitely noticed that. I don't know how to add one of those neutrality warnings, though. Does anyone? The Gameplay section looks terrible. Shmaller1 (talk) 01:24, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Freezing[edit]

I've had issues with the Wii version of '09 freezing as well. While EA might not have confirmed it, I figured it warranted being mentioned here on the discussion portion of the wiki entry. I've lost perhaps... five games(out of, say, 50 total) due to this "error." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.20.237.86 (talk) 08:06, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heck, I ended up failing to score 100 points in Franchise mode because of this. But it's added (a few years ago)...Zappa (talk) 01:07, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Explicit Content?[edit]

In the song "Wax On, Wax Off" I heard part of the lyrics go: "Now walk it off, walk it off, f*** it off, yeah." Then it keeps repeating until it ends. Is this something worth mentioning?

Also in the song "Breakdown" after the lady sings the first line, I hear Wale say "motherf***er"! —Preceding unsigned comment added by YouTubeaholic2009 (talkcontribs) 18:58, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, anybody have an answer? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tendspro (talkcontribs) 20:00, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On "Wax On, Wax Off", it says "Walk it off" 3 times, the 3rd one just sounds like "fuck it off", but it's actually "walk it off". ZappaOMati 16:13, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

References?[edit]

I know that the special edition and Xbox edition aren't sold outside the US, but I've totally forgotten where I got my info from. Could someone please reference my claims I made in a recent edit?

Also, should we add a "See Also" for The Madden series and for Madden 10 (maybe '08 as well).

Thanks Jak0fyer (talk) 10:54, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've Added it, I think its necessary, if you disagree, please explain. I'm new to the wiki Jak0fyer (talk) 11:08, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

This is messed up... badly. "A "Vuvuzela" language version of the game was released on September 17, 2008 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms."

And more... Arfn24 (talk) 04:31, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • I detect no vandalism here, good sir. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.130.149.170 (talk) 04:43, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
