Roy[edit]

Isn't it Roy Fokker?

That's only his name in Robotech.

Release[edit]

Could somebody add in DVD release details, eg when it was released and what sub/dub combinations are available.

I don't think it has been released for DVD outside of Japan, so that information wouldn't be particularly useful. Copyright problems with Harmony Gold keep them from dubbing it in English and releasing it in the US/Asia/Europe. Opacic 11:25, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Macross Zero style" reference[edit]

This reference totally bamboozled me. I think this should be edited so it's clear what it means without having had to have seen said references first. EvilRedEye 01:58, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

       Probably a forced meme from 4Chan or something. Opacic 11:26, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
FORCED MEME? I am shocked and appalled. Thrust vectoring is an old meme and by no means forced. Goes something like: "Thrust vectoring owns the skies, this thing could turn on a dime, Macross Zero style" or similar. --Einsidler 11:19, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Macross Zero and Harmony Gold[edit]

There is no dispute with the Macross FRANCHISE license in the US. Harmony Gold owns it. Period. This is legally verifiable. The language in the main SDF Macross article should be changed from "assert" to "enforce". Additionally, this particular sub license is perpetual and total.

Controversy surrounding copyright ownership of Macross in Japan is not limited to original series, otherwise there wouldn't be an issue here. However I'll concede to anonymous editor that we could probably do without the Yune's speculation that it is the de-facto reason why MZ hasn't been released. As revised, it takes a neutral stance in the absence of hard data.

Issue regarding BS claims of "blocking" release in US by HG needs to be addressed. Using Wikipedia as a means of dispelling commonly believed myths is proper and valid. Furthermore, that statement has been up here for too long and prompted the question (by me personally) to Tommy Yune.

Dan Woren's involvement is being re-inserted but changed to comply with annon editor's legitimate complaint that he's a non-employee and HG's direct involvement in him doing the part is speculation based on Yune's statement.

On the plus side, the revised edit is a bit cleaner and I do appreciate the modification to the citation that directly links to the audio file.

If Harmony Gold owned the franchise license in the US as asserted in 1999, it wouldn't have discovered that no one owned the foreign DYRL merchandising rights and thus had to separately license those rights in 2004. An asserted "perpetual and total license" of the franchise wouldn't need a later separate license for each part of the franchise. That is one reason why Harmony Gold has a verifiable right to the first Macross show, but only an asserted right for the entire franchise. Tommy Yune himself used the words "assert the right" in the referenced interview.
Neither the earlier claim of blocking nor the counterclaim that it is "incorrect" should have been in this article. The statement of one side of the dispute is not confirmation of correctness. Wikipedia will reference external claims by either side, but not assert which is correct for NPOV's sake. Wikipedia is not a soapbox.
In the referenced interview, Tommy Yune did not state "that Dan Woren would have performed the dub voice for Roy Focker." He said that "we would have been happy to see" that happen. Considering that ADV did not choose Dan Woren to voice Roy Focker in its SDF Macross dub last year, entertaining Harmony Gold's happiness for actor choices hasn't been a decisive factor. 1-54-24 08:03, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, no. The issue is not limited to the original series. Even if we take your position that they have not proven in a court of law their license to the entire animation franchise (despite the companies statements to the contrary), it is internally inconsistent to say that the controversy is limited to the original series in a paragraph that begins with "As of 2007, there are no plans to officially release the series [meaning Macross Zero] in English due to legal concerns with the Macross copyright". There should be a period there, and the "including but limited to the original series" should be dropped. As written by you, the paragraph is internally inconsistent. Either there is a controversy with the copyright that spills over to Macross Zero and is stalling its release, or there isn't. It can't be both. Wikipedia has guidelines about consistency, and the paragraph as you wrote it would warrant the standard "the article appears to contradict itself" notice.
As for DYRL, nobody knows what this 2004 deal involved exactly. We do know however, that prior claims of them never having the franchise license have never been successfully disputed.
Secondly, the statement that HG blocked the release was not cited and I strongly suspect it was merely idle speculation on the part of Macross fans for the sake of bashing HG. The position of HG is cited. Therefore, for the purposes of Wikipedia, the prior statement is unverifiable and highly suspicious. I fail to see how providing a cited source is using WP as a soapbox. But if this is such a big issue to you, I wouldn't object to deleting it provided that claims of HG blocking the series never return. If they do, than this issue will have to be revisited.
And finally, I think that your complaint about the Dan Woren entry is semantical, but if it makes you happy, its not entirely important. To me, it can be inferred through his interview that there was a definite plan in the works to use his voice, otherwise there would have been no reason to mention him specifically over any other role.

Sorry for leaving out one word; the first sentence of the section had a missing word that would have made it make sense: "not."
As before, a "perpetual and total" license to the franchise wouldn't need a separate license for each part of the franchise, and wouldn't have Harmony Gold saying that "no one" had the DYRL merchandising rights until they licensed that separately in 2004. The 2002 cease-and-desist letter that Harmony Gold sent said: "Harmony Gold's exclusive rights extend, without limitation, to the distribution of the Macross television series and the right to create and authorize the sale of merchandise based on such series."
Inference about what would make Harmony Gold "happy" is not inference of a definite plan, especially when we already have seen the original Macross series get dubbed with another voice actor, despite what would make Harmony Gold "happy." Nobody said that every statements of Harmony Gold must have logical reasons, just that Wikipedia must go beyond inference. 1-54-24 16:34, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Concerning the introduction of "not limited" instead of "limited", you just overcame my most major objection. If your heart is set on the stuff after the comma, that's fine. I'll go along with it. At least its now consistent and correct.
In regards to "perpetual and total", I was talking about statements made by HG which (apparently) stem from a combination of their original contract in the mid-80s and subsequent contracts. I don't see the need to debate this further though. If you want to continue to argue everything outside the original series is on shaky ground, I'm fine with that. Though it warrants mentioning here (in disscussion) that they successfully blocked the importation of Macross Plus models here in the US.
In any event, I consider this matter closed. Your most recent edit is fine as written, and we have achieved enough the consensus I was looking for.
Kensuke Aida 17:01, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I accidentally dropped the "not" in the first sentence. It makes more sense with that word in.
They only temporarily blocked the importation of Macross Plus models. It's a stranger-than-fiction moment to go to an anime convention and see a Harmony Gold staffer buying a Macross Plus Yamato toy or Hasegawa model--from Hobby Link Japan, one of the dealers that Harmony Gold had sent the cease-and-desist letters. 1-54-24 03:31, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Episode 2 mistake, Fokker firing missiles without wing load.[edit]

Hi I understand the made a number of mistakes to speed up production, i heard it was pointed out to them not to spend 40 plus hours on a plane you only see for a milisecond in show time. Anyway regarding this scene, you can clearly see the vf-os is equiped with the leg mounted missile & fuel FAST packs holding 12 micromissiles each, if you pause the frame, you can actually ID them as the micro missiles from the orignal series used by the vf-1. I suppose this is because vf-1 didn't have missiles in the leg mounted FAST pack was due to their size, a vf-0 is 1 1/3 times larger.

Protoculture or Protodevlin orgins of Bird Human?[edit]

Has anyone found any evidence that the "Bird Human" machine is from the Supervision Army, the original Protoculture, or the Protodevlin themselves? What's the orgin? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.7.227.217 (talk) 22:04, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
