Section[edit]

I created the section and then someone messed with it and added a bunch of people who aren't really notable. Not that I don't like them but really? I'll edit it out but I bet it will return back because I tried deleting it several months ago.

I'm all for Loyola, but half of those "notable alumni" don't seem very notable at all. How many average wikipedians have ever heard of inter-con? I'm deleting some of these. - etamura

someone should ask Fr. cooper if we could put more of his article on this page...it would be interesting. and pictures, too.

This article seems to have been copied from a school website or brochure. Unless the school donates its text to the public domain or GFDL, then we'll have to remove any copied material on account of it being a copyright violation. -Willmcw 01:27, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm curious as to where the SAT averages listed on the front page came from as they seem to be inflated. Currently it states a 2005 SAT average of 707 verbal and 695 math. According to the Loyola DVD I received from the admissions office, the SAT average for the 2006 SAT was 1864/2400, which if we assume the verbal and math averages stay constant would mean 457 on the writing portion. Can't imagine that students scoring over 1400 on the math and verbal would score so low on the writing portion. Also consider that Harvard-Westlake states SAT averages for the Class of 2006 of 685 verbal and 701 math which is lower than the Loyola average, yet HW has more than 3 times as many National Merit Semifinalists with a smaller class. Notable alumni[edit]

  • Christopher Cuellar - Mayor of Westlake CA
  • Gordon Bennett - Bishop of Mandeville, Jamaica, Antilles
  • Lawrence Ross- Los Angeles Times Bestselling Author: The Divine Nine: The History of African American Fraternities and Sororities

Why were these names deleted? Is being an NFL player more notable than being a bishop? -Will Beback 21:11, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When did this school go coed?[edit]

Someone added a scandals section tonight, March 30, 2007, that mentions this school is coed. Can anyone confirm? Morenooso 03:19, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is no news of this on their website @ http://www.loyolahs.edu, which seems to be fairly frequently updated (last update 3/27/07.) Also, the heading of "scandals" just sounds like NPOV territory. Cheers, guyzero | talk 07:59, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Accepts students from..."[edit]

"Loyola admits students from central and the greater Los Angeles area, including students from every racial, economic, and ethnic background" - This does not belong in the atricle as it is to be expected that all people regardless of their cultrual background, cultrual upbringing and ethnicity would be accepted in the school. 218.186.9.1 13:29, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, I've removed that sentence. Cheers, --guyzero | talk 15:26, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article rating, reassessment and requiring citations (as with the ultimate frisbee addition)[edit]

This article is definitely above Start. It is at least C level on the quality scale which reads: The article should have some references to reliable sources, but may still have significant issues. To improve article, I recommend that all its editors keep an eye on unreferenced additions with an eye towards moving it up to B level which reads: The article is mostly complete and without major issues, but requires some further work to reach good article standards. --Morenooso (talk) 17:02, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Continued construction[edit]

In the main body of the article, it is mentioned that a ‘new Xavier Hall’ is being constructed. As of 2023, this building has been completed and is known as ‘Caruso Hall’, the primary funding coming from Rick Caruso in the largest single donation in the school’s history. This coincided with his bid for mayor of Los Angeles. As an alumnus, I can confirm this information, which is widely available on Loyola’s official website, but I am unable to edit the page. 190.238.238.36 (talk) 16:07, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
