Very very few shows film 100% within the five boroughs[edit]

I can attest, being employed in the Film and TV industry in NYC, that very few if any of the non-sitcom shows listed as 'filmed entirely on location and/or using studio facilities in the Five Boroughs' in fact actually film entirely within the five boroughs as that header suggests. It is common and widespread practice in NYC for shows to occasionally do location shoots in nearby parts of New Jersey, Westchester, and Long Island. The exceptions might be the three-camera sitcoms on that list such as the Cosby shows and Spin City, since sitcoms very rarely do any location shooting at all.

To that end I have slightly reworded the section headings.

There are also many other shows filmed in NYC in the news, cable, and daytime (soap) categories. Several that jump to mind are The Today Show, The Daily Show, and As The World Turns. Threephi 04:14, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're right we should qualify the criteria; obviously it would be silly to exclude a show for a few location shots. Somehow I don't think we should extend this to news or talk shows (they're not the kind of thing the city gives tax breaks to, anyway, right?), but the soaps I agree would be an appropriate addition. I think this info makes more sense in a list than a category, as the area where it's shot isn't really a "fundamental property" of a television show, and if we had categories to that fine level, things might get too messy. I don't see a category as necessarily being a fundamental property, just simply a property. So I think there are a few advantages that a category holds over a separate list article. Firstly, IMO a category would be more robust and easier to maintain, since the editing/entry would occur in the article for each show. Categorizing would naturally provide a link to this list (category) within each member article, which would make the list more visible. And that in turn would substantially widen the number of people who might be inclined to help add members to the category. Secondly, the number of shows that would qualify for inclusion is quite large and I believe large sets are more easily maintained in a category than in a list article. As far as the mess factor is concerned, that's basically a push since either you're going to have a list article with links to shows, or a category page to which all the shows link, but categories have an advantage since they seem a bit better set up for use as a reference resource. Guiding Light New Jersey[edit]

A while back Guiding Light vacated their standing sets in New York in favour of location shooting in a town in New Jersey. Should Guiding Light still count as a TV show made in NY?
