Removals?[edit]

An anon did it. Feel free to revert anything that you disagree with, everything is archived on its page. However, perhaps we should rename it List of Pennsylvania waterways, or split the non-rivers onto their own page. -- user:zanimum

Thanks for the reply. This discussion was started on Talk:List of rivers in the United States but it seemed to end w/o an agreed policy. I agree that the river lists can get quite long adding so many tributaries and may drift off topic. I would agree to re-organize the tributaries onto a separate page. But how do we define a River for the true river list? Do we use waterways with the name "river" or do we list only waterways terminating at an ocean? :-) Gjs238 20:34, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know any definition that requires a river to flow into the sea. By that measure Michigan would have no rivers, Ontario would only have one, etc. A river is simply a large stream, which is the technical generic term but not perhaps the best term for our encyclopedia. I like waterways for more expansive list and I just put rivers that are called rivers on the list of rivers. Rmhermen 22:17, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to merge List of Pennsylvania streams into this page[edit]

The List of Pennsylvania streams page was created because streams not named rivers were being deleted from List of Pennsylvania rivers. Perhaps there should be discussion, and policy, on whether streams not named rivers should be listed in lists of rivers. Gjs238 12:42, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think they should be on one page, probably this one (rivers). I checked the history and it looks like the deletion you mention was a one-time event (without discussion) by one anon user who has made very few other contributions. Such things happen all the time and can easily be reverted. As for the rivers vs. creeks matter, I think this picture of the "Yellow River" in Indiana (which also appears in the River article) is a good illustration of the inconsistency in naming streams across the U.S. In Pennsylvania, French Creek is a longer and more substantial stream than the Conestoga River. If there really are strong objections to such intermingling, they could be split on one page, perhaps in two columns. I do think that some of the East Branches and West Forks, etc., could be trimmed from the streams list, as I think those should usually be discussed in the main article for the stream (as in the Potomac River or Nishnabotna River articles). Hi, I see you moved List of Pennsylvania rivers to List of rivers in Pennsylvania. However, you did not move the associated talk page (which is still at Talk: List of Pennsylvania rivers, Talk:List of rivers in Pennsylvania is blank). Nor did you go through and fix all the pages that now link to a redirect (see [[1]]).

For the time being, I am moving the page back to its old name. Would you please mind explaining a) your rationale for the move and b) why you didn't fix all the changes the move made? This should be moved to List of rivers in Pennsylvania to keep with name uniformity. I am willing to move this article and its talk page. It seems ridiculous to go to every article which links to the page and change it though. There is nothing wrong with redirects so long as they don't go more than one level deep. Bucks County Tributaries[edit]

I am working on articles for all tributaries of the Delaware River in Bucks County, so, I added them to this list without links and will add links as the articles go live.
