Source issues[edit]

The USCG historical pages are never perfect, and in the following cases I have chosen to prefer other sources as detailed. Mangoe (talk) 15:58, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Butler Flats Light[edit]

The establishment date given on the USCG historical page is incorrect. There was no prior structure at this location; the 1804 date given is for the third Clark's Point Light tower, which was located ashore. Mangoe (talk) 17:04, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

East Chop Light[edit]

The dates in the tabular information for this light on the Coast Guard historical page are incorrect. The narrative there makes clear that there were multiple towers at this site. Mangoe (talk) 03:32, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Long Island Head Light[edit]

Lots of garbled dates on the USCG page for this one (e.g. several times using 1918 for 1819). I've stuck with D'Entremont's page on the light. Mangoe (talk) 03:20, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Derby Wharf Light[edit]

The automation date for this light in the USCG page seems confused: "sometime in the 1970s" rather than 1917, which is what other sources say. I have preferred the latter date as begin more consistent with the overall history of the light. Mangoe (talk) 19:12, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deer Island Light[edit]

Virtually every source has a different height for this light. I've preferred the height given on a chart from a few years before the light was demolished. Mangoe (talk) 19:12, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nantucket Cliff Range Lights[edit]

I have omitted an image for this pair because the current lights do not resemble the USCG-supplied image at all. The lights still exist at the Gilbreths' house, if someone would like to take more useful picture. Mangoe (talk) 15:46, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lovells Island Range[edit]

The USCG history page includes coordinates for these lights; there is an error in one light of a couple of minutes which I have corrected. Mangoe (talk)

Nantucket Range Lights[edit]

The section in the USCG history page is confusing. There were actually three ranges functioning at different times:

  • The oldest range consisted of the old Brant Point Light and the Nantucket Beacon, which was moved all over the place and appears to have been eliminated in the 1870s when the breakwater construction cut off the old channel.
  • The cliff range guided ships to the harbor entrance. It became part of the Gilbreths' house.
  • The current harbor range was built next to the old Brant Point Light; it is still active.

The article for the Nantucket Beacon was misnamed but you can see on the historical page that this is its proper name. Mangoe (talk) 21:46, 15 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Marblehead Light[edit]

Data comes from Local Notice to Mariners because for some reason the light was omitted from the 2012 light list. Mangoe (talk) 04:12, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
